The porgs are always watching verse.
[ The move went about as smoothly as it could be expected to go.
Which is to say in jerking chaotic movements only coordinated by the sheer willpower of one Leia Organa. Lando helped, of course-- Poe Attempted to help but he looked a bit rough around the edges. .... In fact, Poe, Finn and Rose looked rough around the edges. Kylo chose to make no commentary on the fact as he continued to load the Falcon.
--Which became somewhat unnerving as he felt his mother searching him out--- and then cruise by while looking long and hard at his hands.
Seems Rey had gotten to her.
There's a flurry of activity to soften any probing, however. People arranging themselves and the next moves, there's an anxious tension in the air that Kylo feels moves the Force around him. It's unnerving in that he knows some part of it is to discuss what happens to him. And even more unnerving because he knows his mother has to plant the seeds that perhaps Rey and Kylo should be solo agents. In fact, he's sure he can feel the moment that's suggested, especially when Poe seems a little rankled as he wanders through the hanger. Annoyed-- probably more for the idea that there's even a SUGGESTION that Rey should be separated from them.
Yikes.
But there's also the fact that Kylo now realizes he's in Rey's hands. Completely. In some capacity he always has been since he's got here-- but under the guidance of his mother. Not that he doesn't trust Rey, but a safety blanket is being torn off that has been there this entire time.
And-- the final private good bye he has with his mother and Lando (No, not final. She sees it on his face and feels it in the Force and sets him straight. 'This isn't forever. You always have a home with me.') finalizes that. It's leaving for Luke's all over again, but with some of that darkness lifted. Somehow, in his mother's arms he feels her renewed strength and fragility all at once.
And just when he thinks she's going to leave him to get ready for the final send off she reaches out for his hand and examines his father's ring and underlines the point:
'I don't care if you both are in wampa furs with Ewoks, I want to be there.'
Lando just claps his hand to Kylo's back and insists that he listen to his mother.
Cool.
Not embarrassing or mortifying at all.
The last thing she does for him is hand him his cross guard.
No words are needed, just a look is exchanged. One that leaves him feeling a pit underneath him and the weight of what she is actually giving him.
From there-- It's fanfare. Well.... The Resistance's version of fan fare. A group of beings gather as Leia speaks about hope blazing stronger than ever. That they are the seeds of what she had wanted for so many years. Poe looks ready to cry, Chewbacca bows his head in respect-- and that's when Rey finally manages to find him and slide next to him under his father's ship.
Given how often they get separated, he realizes how odd it will be to be side by side all the time. Neither one of them had put thought to it and-- it's just gonna become another issue they have to deal with as it comes up.
But she reaches for his hand and he slides his fingers between her own and there's peace there in that touch. A promise for a future he never imagined. He doesn't know what his purpose is beyond her anymore, but it felt like enough. No longer surviving and going day by day, but building.
Finn still can't fly worth a damn, Poe was drugged by Chewbacca and Rose refused to leave either of their sides. I know this is a hard transition out of left field but this is to say-- They all get to ride on the Falcon with Chewie, Rey, Kylo and The Porgs. Which is just a curse in disguise for Poe as several of them try to use his stomach as a nest while he trips Balls. But the ride to Naboo gives them time to talk and unwind and socialize. Kylo absolutely wrecks Finn in Sabbac and Dejarik, even with Rose's guidance (Which Finn ignored ofc). Chewbacca interjects randomly- and nearly tackles Poe for shoving at one of the especially obnoxious porgs trying to burrow into his side. And-- hell. Even Kylo and Poe both silently commiserate over how they are going to miss Mom. With Rose calling them out and telling them to Stop worrying about her.
All that said, it's a peaceful-- and nearly immediately nostalgic ride. It's nearly a shame when they hit Naboo. The only thing which wipes away the feeling is the sheer enormity of the celebrations.
Poe immediately has to disembark (After a trip to the refresher and a clean crisp pair of Not Raggedy I just Rolled Into This War Meeting To Blow Shit Up clothes) to guide the rest of the fleet and parse through their accommodations. Rose is given the task of helping to account for all the inventory and immediately gets Finn's help. Which leaves Kylo and Rey.
The same nerves hit him, broiling under the surface, imagining a whole host of "what if"s and only Rey's intervention impedes the invasion.
There's no Allothar's. No Hux's or Snoke's.
There's curiosity to be sure, the apprehension is unmistakable, and he's sure half of them expected Kylo Ren to be led out in chains. But it's nearly immediately overwhelmed by curiosity. Both for Kylo and Rey. Which... nearly predictably, they're separated nearly immediately. Something he nearly protests until Rey reaches out and gives him the soft ping that "It's Okay".
It doesn't feel okay from his prospective. But it's fine. Totally cool. Not like Rey is one of the only people he implicitly trusts. But whatever.
It's an odd mixture. He is, at once, taken to find something befitting "someone of his lineage"-- it's more doting then snobbery, but it only gets more surreal as some characters from the royal court ask if they have permission to call him Ben and not Kylo Ren.
He had never.... actually decided on that clearly. But he decides to tell them "Solo" is fine. "Ben", after all, still felt like something reserved for family and not the galaxy.
Which is fine except some people take that as "Oh lemme just call u ben already!!"
Cool. I'm sure that's an irrelevant note.
The separation at the very least wasn't for any sinister reason. Unfortunately the last Jedi and the lineage Padme Amidala just had very separate welcomings. Something which he parses as they guide him through halls and speak of traditions and bloodlines and of how they were so happy he had come back to the light.
It's about here that he firmly asks to see Rey.
The woman who had been one of his main guides seems a bit annoyed by his urgency to cut things short, but he couldn't even be bothered to get her name.
'Liana,' She repeats it once she can see his mind wandering. She's dressed and made up as one of the higher born royals, her hair looks as though it possibly took a small army to assemble. And all Kylo can think is he didn't have time to do Rey's hair before they departed.
Liana huffs, amused at how distracted he is before taking him along some other part of the tour. Probably to see some fountains or whatever else rich people shit. Talk about how Padme and Anakin made out here once.
Sorry Kylo Ren, your toddler tantrums and demands to see Rey are not working for the moment.
Yikes. Let's hope Rey isn't getting Absolutely Assaulted (she probably is).
And hey. You see this novel I wrote here? You see it???
don't u fukkin worry. I'm gonna make it all end in a text convo.
Because Kylo Ren is now gonna be every over extended out of their element introvert and pull out his datapad. If anyone asks he'll shrug with a short answer of it being Urgent.
Urgent meaning-- Texting Rey. ]

She muddles through somehow. They show her to Varykino, which they promise is only a short jaunt from the capital in the Lake Country. It's three hours, in actuality. They tell her that the rest of the royal family presumes that Varykino is where Padme and Anakin were married, all those years ago.
She disappoints them all by asking who Padme is.
She disappoints them further by pulling her comm out in the midst of it. ]
No luck.
Do you know where Varykino is?
[ She's much too far off for a heroic rescue now. She tucks the comm back away with an apology and lets them show her to a library. ]
Are there Jedi texts in it?
[ They look uncomfortable and suggest, 'No, but there are family histories.' Her smile tightens into a flat line. ]
Great.

Oh well. It be like that with royalty sometimes.
Liana is trying her damned hardest to get him to appreciate the water gardens of Dorne-- wait. Shit. FUck. Wrong nerd thing. Sorry. But there are gardens in the middle of this palace, a couple of gazebos, arches with flowers twirling down and begging to kiss the heads of any who walk under them. It's beautiful and romantic and coMPLETELY LOST ON "oh bae texted me one minute" OVER HERE. ]
Unfortunate.
Varykino is where my grandparents were married. Allegedly.
[ Only Kylo Ren could make marriage sound like a criminal act.
Which I mean... I guess for Padme and Anakin it kinda was. So. Fitting.
He does spare a brief glance up to appreciate the greenery. It is beautiful out here. Honestly it seems like a place he'd come to in his own time away from everyone else to get his own peace of mind. But-- that's impossible when you're being ferried around like a prize fathier.
But he does know someone who may appreciate them in their entirety. ]
Have you seen the gardens yet?
[ KYLO PAY ATTENTION. LIANA IS DOING HER BEST AND WAS PROBABLY PRESSURED BY A BILLION DIFFERENT PEOPLE TO NOT FUCK THIS UP.
(I swear he's not glued to his comm unit. I SWEAR.) ]

They're starting with a tour of the library. The LIBRARY. I won't be back in time for dinner at this rate.
[ Their loss, honestly. It means they'll have to put up with hangry Rey without Ben to placate her. In the absence of Snickers, only Ben's cock has been capable thus far of quelling the beast. But, well, with the way they're looking at her, it's probably better no one knows about that particular strategy. ]
I was actually hoping I could go outdoors. My legs are stiff from the flight.
[ The look uncomfortable with the assertion, but after some fumbling and exchanged glances, they lead her towards the front doors. Beyond the estate, there are wide ranging fields of colored flowers like she's never seen. Rey draws in a breath of the fresh air. It's good to be here, to feel connected again.
Her guides don't seem to know what to do with her. There's no historical facts attached to the wild outdoors. ]

[ Seriously. Rey is out here flying by the seat of her pants and Kylo's out here writing down jedi teachings and being a fucking nerd. Get it right losers.
Actually wait. ]
They probably don't have any teachings on the Force... [ Poetry, history, philosophy-- probably wouldn't be too bad. But damned if he isn't curious to learn more about the Force and it's followers.
He had scoured the galaxy for more readings with Snoke, poured through archives and tore through villages. But anything recorded was exceedingly rare.
It was strange to think that it was partially his grandfather's fault. His own lineage holding him back... from his lineage. Just what happens from being a Skywalker.
The collar of whatever they've forced upon him itches at his neck. It's fitted and made from some too soft fabric that bothers him in its delicacy. He runs his fingers under it for what feels like the millionth time when he notices Liana watching him expectantly.
Oh no.
She said something didn't she?
Well. It's not like Kylo is gonna just admit he was whining to Rey about everything.
'It is a bit dry, isn't it?' She gives him a placating smile, a soft easy charm to her.
He suddenly can see entirely how his mother was raised and how she had her implacable poise.... and why she rebelled as well. ] This wasn't the welcome I expected.
[ All blunt edges here. He hasn't had to interact with anyone outside of his own small zone of safety for a few months now and... Between Ben Solo and Kylo Ren who was he? Yikes.
If the young royal notices his existential crisis, she doesn't mind it.
'There were plenty of debates on how to welcome you,' she continues to move forward at their leisurely pace. 'A few suggested shackles.'
Bold move there Cotton, let's see how it works out for her. ]
A wise choice.
[ His response is so dry and immediate that for most anyone it would illicit a look of disgust-- Liana laughs.
--NGL Kylo is horrified he's found someone who shares his sense of humor. ]
Perhaps we could try and make the believe that they have us confused. You're Ben Solo and I'm Rey of Jakku.
[ He hasn't got the alert that Rey is now in the gardens. ]

She just wasn't used to others appreciating them, and the more they did, the more uncomfortable and jealous she became. Even of Rose.
It had been irrational then. It is irrational now, even if this woman is a stranger who has taken no time at all to grow endeared to Ben. Rey has his messages in her pocket, indicating firmly that he would rather be talking to her than spending time in this woman's company. Rey pulls them out now, and she too laughs.
Swapping identities. Yes. That'd go over swimmingly.
She shakes her head and looks away from the scene, assessing her keepers. Honestly if Ben would spend more time with women like that, they'd all probably be happier with the heir to the Amidala house. She presses her lips together tightly and wanders back, feeling sour over her own lack of diplomatic prowess.
Instead of responding to Ben, she tries to throw herself into it. Interrogating her keepers — no, she ought to try to think of them as guides, not as people keeping her away from Ben deliberately — on everything they could share with her about Nabooan politics as they drag her into the library after all. ]

(Rey: HES GETTING ALONG WITH PEOPLE OF COURSE EVERYONE WANTS HIM
Kylo: can barely get through any social interaction that isn't Rey with out wondering why this person is actually tolerating his presence)
Liana assures him that it was the clear majority to treat Ben Solo with respect and dignity as long as he acted in kind. His mother's reputation held weight in the galaxy and his grandmother was still mourned. There had always been hope that some part of Padme could still live in the generations beyond her.
There's that familiar weight of family and expectations. Ones which had ended him up in this mess in the first place. It crawls under his skin and he notes Rey hasn't messaged him back. He wonders if he should try messaging her again or wait until there seems to be a moment where he can just asks someone if he can see her--
'Rey,' Ben looks up to see Liana noting his posture, the way his hand is at his hip, where his comm is tucked away, 'You're messaging her, right?'
His brow pinches and his lips twitch in a way that speaks volumes to the fact that she's just seen through all of his shit. He shouldn't have said her name earlier, it was a dumb desperate mistake in hindsight. He feels far too exposed in a place he had only been in for a few short hours.
Liana doesn't mind his own crisis of not being perfect and an immovable block of stone because he's dumb in love. Instead she steps past him to look around the gardens and back towards the buildings, making sure they're alone. Only once she's confirmed that they have the area to themselves does she come to stand in front of him again.
'Do you know where she is? I can take you to her.'
Huh.
Okay he's taking this chance to try messaging Rey again. ]
Where are you? Can you get away from your guides?

So instead she sits deadpan at one of the holo-tables, watching the reel, feeling a yawn creep up her throat and swallowing it with teary eyes when her guides look her way and almost catch her. She makes it through plenty before she notices the comm message. ]
Unlikely. We're up to your great, great, great, great grandmother. She too was a queen. I'm sure you're shocked.
IM SO ANGER I THOUGHT I POSTED THIS LAST NIGHT I GUESS NOT WHATEVER HERE IT IS
Still, it's hard for her to connect him to the various holos and stories she's seen of him.
A good reason for the mask, she supposes. It would be rather hard to look intimidating with perfectly manicured hair like his.
'She'll respond, I'm sure of it,' She steps forward to offer encouragement.
In the meantime, she cuts to the most important things he should see. The rooms his grandmother resided in the most, the places she enjoyed. Really, the rest was a fluff tour. At the very least she could try to provide some context to his history.
Right as the exit one of her favorite reading chambers his comm buzzes. He pulls it out and reads through Rey's message.
Ah-- ] Where do they keep information on the family blood line?
[ Good job Liana. She's putting up with this shit. She must have a super introverted friend and just Understands his complete dickish behavior.
'The library.'
He nearly rolls his eyes as he works his jaw in annoyance. Right, they were keeping her in there like it's any use.
And Liana's just enthralled with how much this huge asshole is a total goober for his girlfriend. Jedi girlfriend. She doesn't say as much, but she's interested to hear how the fuck THIS pairing started. (WATCH THE LAST JEDI LIANA JESUS).
'I suppose that's where we're headed next, then.'
Kylo's a bit gobsmacked. His expression is blank as he attempts to process the new information but-- ]
Thank you.
[ The woman waves him off with a nod and a smile as she practically glides in the direction of the Bae. ]
Headed your way.
[ He is a singled minded organism. ]
WEEPS DW WHY
No! [ Beat. ] No. I'm enjoying this. Really. I'm so glad to hear about Queen Teryahu.
[ Uncomfortably, they correct her: 'Taenhryuu.'
Rey slides down in her chair sheepishly. ]
Er, right.
[ She's trying so hard. ]
Hurry.
Didn't press the enter key hard enough ig
But for now there's only one goal in mind, which is Save Rey. Snoke, Allothar, Insufferable royals who are all related to Kylo Ren in some way and probably wanna hook him up with his second cousin or some shit. He's gonna save Rey from all of this.
He can tell they're approaching the library by how much stronger she feels. He's nearly ready to charge in through the door and..... Well. He hadn't thought that far ahead. Don't worry. Liana has. She holds out her hand and stops him in his tracks. A short breath before she looks back to him with something that can only be equated to "PLAY THE FUCK ALONG EMO BOY" before she presses forward delicately and commands the doors open herself.
'And this--' She says in an overly loud voice, the guides Rey are with are bound to hear her, 'Is the library.'
She begins to chatters as though Kylo Ren had shown any interest in what the hell was in here before. Listing off the ancient epics which are kept here 'Some have the original holos from their poets-- millienia dead!' and every other thing which may interest him later but now he's able to use his impressive height to look for Rey. Somehow he doesn't manage to look like a waddling duckling just on his feet, but his head does swivel to look for her familiar hair. He doesn't have to look far as the young noblewoman ushers him with a hand movement and a delicate swish of fabric, catching the scant light in the halls.
'Oh!' Liana is just milking it for that academy nomination here. Maybe played by Kiera Knightly for some Sick callbacks, 'We weren't expecting to run into anyone here.'
Rey-- Rey why do people keep dressing your man. You can't leave him alone. Clearly. This time not only is he in fancy fabric(Not as covered as Padme or any other of the crowned royal family-- but it's notable. He looks more like he's supposed to be something delicate or fragile then the warrior he really is), which you probably missed being super angsty about him making other women laugh. But his hair is french-braided along his scalp. It's not extremely elaborate, but it's insulting that it looks so good???? Jesus gawd.
Keep the hair, throw out the fabric. WHY DOES NO ONE GIVE HIM ARMOR???????
Kylo doesn't care much about pretenses here, he wants to step forward and stand with Rey-- but her guides shift their weight and come to stand in front of her. Still unaware of the booty call this really is. ]

Ben.
[ She's on her feet in an instant, pushing her way between the guides to get at him. While Ben maintains some semblance of propriety, Rey doesn't have the investment he does and moves past it entirely. She doesn't know what she needs to be right in front of him to do — it's not a kiss or a hug, despite the fact that they've been apart for a bit. They're in public. That's awkward and performative. But she's drawn to him and she's not going to pretend that she isn't.
Oh that lady from before is with him. Rey looks her over, puzzling for a moment over that fact, then settles on offering Liana a smile. Ultimately nonthreatening. ]
Do they have a place for us to stay ready yet?
no subject
It really felt wrong to call them that at this juncture. Maybe at some point he would have held this place in some high regard given the connection to his grandfather, but now it seems trivial.
But of course she would feel examined. She's the last Jedi. Upholding a tradition and a religion which has been tumultuous at it's best. And now the weight of it all is on her. It's ridiculous to contemplate her feeling otherwise. He doesn't exist in a vacuum
So, with that bit of self reflection and self loathing out of the way, he approaches her as well. His eyes haven't left her since they've got here. ]
I'm not sure. [ He hasn't been paying attention, truthfully.
'They'll be ready after dinner,' Liana mirrors Rey's smile, if not more subdued. Royalty couldn't go around being as expressive as Rey after all. This isn't a goddamn disney princess movie.
But the other guides just haven't caught what the fuck is going on. I guess they are also suffering from "Cannot See Kylo And Rey wanting to fuck At All Times" vision issues as well. Liana will help give a nudge. 'I could take the both of them off of your hands, if you'd like.'
Liana, the hero Rey needed. ]

[ Rey's quick to latch onto it. The two guides who had accompanied her don't get a chance to respond. ]
You want to look at the histories? It's all I've seen.
[ That earns a huff of a laugh from Liana that gets masked in clearing her throat. The older guides who had accompanied Rey don't know quite what to make of it, but they excuse themselves decidedly from the library space. ]

Liana really wishes she had been making bets with others in the court, she's feeling kinda ripped off at this point.] I don't know what the protocol is here on touching.[ Like yes, he knows what it would be between two normal people on Naboo-- and even two royals or a royal person and their subordinate. But he's the somewhat disgraced yet redeemed grandson of Padme Amidala and she's Rey from Nowhere but also the Last Jedi????
Not looking to immediately jump into any intergalactic conflict just because he wanted to hold her hand.
'You would probably upset quite a few dignitaries,' Liana pipes in helpfully.
Since the destruction of the Judgement, the death of Armitage Hux and the confusing reports on Kylo Ren (First possibly dead, then not dead but a prisoner, then not a prisoner but a traitor who turned to the Resistance-- and then finally actually the Son of Leia Organa) she'd witnessed the palace erupt into chaos. Well-- there had been chaos across the galaxy quite frankly, among royalty and the elite, all wondering where there place would be in this new order. Some had clearly been waiting on Kylo Ren to turn tables, but it was surprisingly silent on any news regarding him. Even now, their planet hadn't been informed he would be a "guest" until the last moment and there had been intense discussion on how to handle it.
Of course there had been calls to chain him up, but she hadn't spoken of the discussion of how this could be an advantage.
Leia Organa's son, arguably the heir to an important name and legacy. If he had truly turned toward the light, a romance could be advantageous.
But neither Rey nor Ben look as though they'll benefit from that knowledge at the moment. So she won't intrude.
'We should hurry before they decide to come back,' Liana can't imagine they'll accept her excuse of relieving the others of their duty for long. Especially not when word gets back that she's been left alone with the two Force Users. 'I can take you anywhere you like.'
Cool, coded language Kylo can deal with this. This is his forte. ]
Somewhere without people. [ --Okay except he doesn't speak in code ever at all. so there u go.
Liana looks to Rey, mirroring the smile the other woman has.
'And do you have any preferences?' ]
