SHIPS I AM MAYBE ON
Kylo/Poe: I'm not of the fanon that Ben or Poe knew each other as kids. If you want to play that, talk with me first, we'll need to hash out details. If you wanna do hateship, that's fine too. Again. I'd like to be consulted first
Kylo/Hux: This is such a huge maybe it's almost a no. I am not down for fluffy Kylo/Hux. I don't think Kylo or Hux secretly love each other and that takes form in them wanting to murder each other when they walk into a room and see each other. I do not think Kylo wants anything to do with Hux's dick Ever. I only see this happening as Hux taking advantage of Kylo when he's emotionally compromised and unprotected without Snoke keeping Hux in line.
So Kylux is only a "cool lets do it" if you are willing to play out something unhealthy, toxic, with a huge dose of hate and manipulation. Kylo/ANYONE ELSE: Not against pretty much any other ship, but Kylo's a hard dude to ship with for. A lot of reasons. Talk with me first, and I'll see if we can work something out.

Mental health
I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.
I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.
I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

It was, wasn't it?
Kylo Ren was impulsive, quick to anger and-- to put it lightly-- a brat. Cross him and it was possible you'd find yourself missing a limb or at least expect a nearby console to suffer the consequences. But he knew his time may be coming to an end. It wasn't anything Snoke directly said or did, but a feeling he had. Maybe the Force telling him that he was a pawn. It's a position he's used to to be certain, but a pawn was only useful for how much they could bring you.
He failed to bring Rey or the location of Luke Skywalker, Hux had managed to blow up an entire star system and was still rabid for more, and here he was. On a bridge with his father. He'd like to believe that killing Han Solo would restore his place with Snoke, but would it ever be enough?
He knows it won't. He knows after Skywalker is dead there is no place for Kylo Ren. He was too powerful to be kept alive, and with out a use or purpose it was better to dispose of him.
Han Solo speaks to the light in him, to Ben Solo still screaming out from the deep depths of black-- and he considers it. Considers it because he yearns for a place to belong. For a home. For things he'd long since given up. His mask is off, his father is close, warmth radiates from him and some part of him is still in disbelief he's here. When was the last time he saw his father? He still had color in his hair-- he hadn't looked this old.
Snoke's voice rings in his head. Roaring and tearing through everything. Demanding Han's life. There's promises of what Kylo could become. Who he could be. He grips the hilt of his crossguard and--
Numb.
Everything is white and numb and he grunts or groans-- he's not sure. He doesn't quite hear it. He nearly passes out-- nearly falls. His father's wretched the hilt from his hand and is holding on to his arm and side tightly.
'Need some help here!!!'
That's Han. That's definitely Han screaming. (Han. His father. He's not sure what to think right now)
His connection to the force hasn't entirely been stripped, but his senses are entirely thrown off (His vision is blotches, he smells and tastes something metallic but not blood. It's more like biting on to cool steel, he feels like his extremities have fallen asleep and yet are too sensitive all at once). It's not normal, he's not reacting well in his head but he can hardly fight any of it-- ]
Wha-- [ It's a growled out vowel more than a coherent word and Han seems to at least understand that he now has a rancor under a sedative and not an ewok.
'Shut up, Ben,' He keeps repeating that name as if it has relevancy here. 'I made your mother a promise.'
Conflict flickers through his soul. Some part of him longs to be free-- but he can feel Snoke tearing at the fringes of his mind, trying to break in. Demanding to know what's going on, demanding progress and fidelity.
Han hitches his arm around his shoulder. Kylo teeters, caught between pulling or shoving Han away-- his hands uselessly clawing at his jacket to try and get his weapon back. His fighting grows more clumsy and fierce as Han's foot connects with his helmet and sends it careening down into the pit.
'CHEWIE.' ]
don't trigger me
Finn's shouts ring in her ear, a louder thrum than the rush of her own blood hammering in her skull. Her knuckles tighten, blanching white where they have gripped the banister. Han. Dread makes her throat tight, but when the blaster fire clears, it isn't the sight of his limp form that greets him.
Relief bursts in her chest until his shouts become decipherable. A cry for help. By the time she and Finn scramble to the bridge, Chewbacca has fired off another shot into a debilitated Kylo Ren — his son; she continues to grapple with that revelation, the clear disdain Kylo had expressed for a man that has been nothing but kind to her — and hauled him off of Han's shoulders.
He would look almost peaceful, helpless, in his infirm state if she didn't know any better. ]
We're taking him with us? [ She calls out as she follows after Han, speedily racing toward his ship. He waves her off, but Finn is there at his side, agreeing. It's lunacy, surely. Kylo Ren is a threat. They can't trust that he won't wake and tear apart the Falcon from the inside once he realizes what's occurred. He may be a sleeping beast, but he is still a beast. The same that had tormented her. ] But —
[ 'No time to talk,' Han barks out. 'Come on!' He waves them up frantically. Finn is still trying to debate it, but Rey grabs at his hand and drags him with her, into the frigid air of the forest. ]
You didn't tell us he's your son.
[ It sounds accusatory, almost, but she doesn't mean for it to — even if that lack of trust stings, to some extent, the way Finn's choice to lie to her had. 'You think that's first meeting material?' Han drawls, and then he's marching his way down a snow bank with a pointed wait here.
It doesn't take long to board. Chewbacca hoists Kylo Ren into the ship without little trouble. Han, in the meantime, tries to prove he is just as useful by holding onto his ... leg ... Like, good job, Han. Rey and Finn share a look and trail after them, watching the planet begin to collapse as they enter atmo.
When she enters the living quarters, Chewbacca has Kylo draped over a metal bench. ]
He's not going to stay asleep forever. [ She points out, frowning at his drowsy form with distrust. ] I hope you know what you're doing.
[ Han tells her he always knows what he's doing. Another lie, but she can't fault him for trying to keep his family together. It makes her chest constrict in the absence of her own, but she understands it. 'He won't have this,' Han proceeds to say, and brandishes the extinguished lightsaber in Rey's direction. 'Hold onto it.'
She nods, quickly clipping it to her belt. ]
Leans into mic: Darth Maul.
He's still holding that lightsaber isn't he?
He feels awkward with it right now but??? Where does he store it otherwise? He looks to Rey and Rey had given some indication and details on her using the Force??? Is she a Jedi now??? She gets to hold Kylo's saber so Maybe??? He's gonna hand his hilt to her as well, he really doesn't know what to do with it and ...... I'll be honest as a Mun. KYLO WOULD SLICE FINN IN TWO WITH THAT BLADE LIKE HE DONE GANKED SNOKE. Safest place is on Rey's person.
Chewie comes storming through with a pair of binders which he swiftly attaches one end to Kylo's wrist and the other to some exposed piping. It would be laughable if he was at full strength, but hopefully it will get the point across enough so he really doesn't do something pants on head stupid when he wakes up. Like Pull apart the ship while they're in hyperspace.
This is a tag of trying to damage control BEFORE Kylo wakes up. Even if he isn't quite fully out yet.
He's groaning-- gasping. He vaguely recognizes what the wookiee hit him with, and is fairly sure the dosage was off. Like eating too many edible cookies at once really. Everything is slowed down and magnified, his entire body buzzes like static. He pulls at the arm that's bound and growls-- practically snarls as he's pulled under. Incrementally he feels wakefulness leave him and it pulses more anxiety through him-- especially as Snoke knocks, knocks, and knocks at the door of his mind.
He had no problems slamming through them normally. He can't tell how much is the drug and how much is Kylo's own awakening, his realization that Snoke isn't safe. And if Snoke wasn't safe, the First Order wasn't safe-- there was no where else for him.
Rey may see the specter trying to enter his mind, a darkness, a vague form, a whisper in the Force. Disembodied but powerful, trying to dig it's claws into his apprentice as he lays prone and writhing. But as Kylo tires himself out, loses the fight--
It will turn it's attention to her. Briefly.
Chewbacca, in the mean time, has done his duty and needs to get back to the cock pit. He howls at Han and the response he gets is all of a: 'Somewhere that isn't here!' And the mass of action and reaction and panic is somewhat familiar in the Falcon. The sounds, the smell, the feel of ship trying to hold itself together-- it's so achingly familiar. The fight in Kylo Ren weakens, every joint softens and eventually.... excruciatingly his mind floats to unconsciousness, just as they hit Hyperspace and Han and Chewie's victorious hollers can be heard ringing through the cabin.
'What the hell are we doing now?' Breathless and scared out of his mind-- Finn poses a damn good question. ]
i don't have to stand for this!!!!
Minutely, she relaxes, but it's fleeting. Darkness pounds at her peripherals, demanding entry, and she frowns down at Kylo Ren's limp form. Surely it has to be his doing, another attempt at forcing a path into her mind, tearing it open to spill out its contents. She winces visibly as it intensifies, but as soon as she does, it's gone. As if it had never occurred. ]
It's nothing.
[ She tells Finn when he looks at her, worried. Han's head swivels around to eye both of them where they've come to a stand just outside the cockpit, but he eventually turns back to the console.
'We reconvene with the Resistance. That's what we're doing now,' he answers gruffly. Chewbacca warbles a disagreement, insisting he should relay a message to Leia. She'll want to know her son is with them, after all.
Han shakes his head, and Rey's eyebrows knit at the refusal. ] Why? [ 'Don't wanna get her hopes up just yet,' he tells Rey. Oh. That makes sense. She can only imagine what it will be like for Leia, facing her son after all that he has done. ]
We should at least tell them we survived.
[ Han points out that they'll have evacuated their base on D'Qar now that their location has been revealed, that it's pointless to land there, but he knows how to reach Leia. Rey nods her understanding, and disappears back into the living quarters, where Chewbacca continues to loom over Kylo's unconscious body. ]
yea u do you're forcing me to write Han and Chewie instead of Kylo. BOBA. FETT.
Chewie greets her with a trill, as she comes closer he'll look her over for injuries or blemishes. Wanting to know if anything was done to her. They all heard the rumors of Kylo's brand of torture, after all. What he was capable of. Chewie hasn't underestimated him at all.
The air should be light and jubilant. Victory capped off with an exploding death machine-- but instead the tension is thick. It's not because of Han's yelling match with Finn or the way Chewbacca has to be a sentry, but it's in the quality of it all. The unspoken reasoning behind the defensiveness, the fact that he hadn't brought up his son or the being connected to another Force user on such a personal level. To all of it. And Han and Chewie both know it.
And part of Han. A big part of Han contemplates running. Finding the furthest reaches of the galaxy and trying to get his son a new life or volunteering to disappear to the fringes, at least until Kylo Ren is more legend than reality. Until the name is dust and Ben Solo could live again.
But it's not as simple as that. Anxiety burns in his gut at the thought on bringing his own son to chains, but what other choice did he have?
And the ultimate reason for Han's tension-- Why had his son chose this in the first place? Why was he drowned in blackness, hid his face? Destroyed his identity? And what did it have to do with Luke's disappearance?
Questions he could put off for years, write off as things he could never solve, were real now. He should be back there. With his son. Petting his hair, fretting over him, trying to see how many inches he'd grown and the moles which marked his face. See how he transformed from a gawky kid into the man he was today. But he can't do it. He's still a coward.
He can only hope Leia won't look upon them both with failure on her mind.
Kylo moans, his enforced sleep isn't a peaceful one. His body fighting the drugs, and only given temporary reprieve from Snoke's prying mind-- funnily enough when Rey comes closer his mind is calmed. His fighting is less and he dreams of an ocean. Chewie makes a sound, noting the effect-- not quite understanding it.
This was going to be a rough ride. The Resistance had no idea what it was in for ]
you say that like han and chewie aren't excellent?? how dare
[ She assures Chewie as he scans her, lifting one of her arms to inspect it. Dirt coats her skin, but she remains — otherwise — physically untouched. 'You better be,' Finn interjects. 'If he did anything to you—' He doesn't finish the sentence, and he doesn't need to. Finn's clenched jaw speaks for itself.
Their concern is almost an overwhelming experience when she has gone so long without. She plucks her arm away from Chewie. ]
He tried to take the map from me. [ Her head turns, eyeing the heap of Kylo Ren. ] But he failed.
[ In his current state, he looks nothing like a threat, but she knows the truth. Finn opens his mouth to speak, but Chewie beats him to the punch, idly noting the effects of Rey's proximity. She thinks back to the interrogation room, how the Force pulsed like a living entity between them, and then quickly — vehemently — shoves the memory aside.
It has nothing to do with her. It can't be her. More aptly, she doesn't want it to have anything to do with her. ]
It's a coincidence. [ She argues. Chewie trills, dubious but accepting of her denial. That's precisely what it is, at its core: denial, even as the thread between them pulls taut with her step back. ] That's all.
[ Chewie suggests she rest. She nods, but Han's voice calls from the back of the ship. 'Do us all a favor and shower. You smell like a bantha.' Rey ducks her head and sniffs at herself, coming away unperturbed. She's fine ? ?? But she glances behind her, and moves toward the refresher while Finn hovers in the corner, staring suspiciously in Kylo's direction.
'Can't we keep him like this?' Finn asks, sardonic. Dimly, she hears Han biting out some snide comment as she ducks into the communal showers. ]
BOBA FETT AND DARTH MAUL HAVE CHILDREN AND THEY ARE THE LEADS OF THE NEXT STAR WARS TRILOGY
'They'll want to find Luke,' is what he relays to Finn and-- Finn thinks that's a bit daft. Everyone's looking for Luke Skywalker and is NOW the time to really waste on trying to get one guy to their cause?
But they need a miracle and miracles are in short order recently. And Luke was the final piece of this puzzle.
And... well-- there was the matter of was anyone else qualified to hold Kylo Ren?
KYLO IS KO'D RIGHT NOW BUT HE WOULD JUST LIKE TO ADD THAT'S GONNA GO OVER SO WELL.
So Han locks in a location and Chewie goes to heft Kylo over his shoulder and to one of the holding rooms. At the very least he isn't in a communal space and he's easier to watch. Finn is bullied into the first shift as Rey gets Clean, Chewie and Han have a lot to discuss. First off, Han being pissed at Chewie STUNNING HIS SON??? (Chewie has no remorse. HAN COULDA DIED YO) And then Chewie drilling Han on Exactly How this is going to work getting back to Leia. Like. Is Chewie just gonna dump the garbage pile at her feet like some trophy animal?? HERE'S UR SON!!!!!!!!! And HAN WHY HAVEN'T YOU GONE AND LOOKED AT HIM YET???
Kylo is, at least, quiet and definitely not awake for this. Finn has a blaster at the ready and watches where he's-- attached to a wall and thrown across a crate in a heap. He doesn't look peaceful, more pained. Anxiety and fear is chasing him in even this state, at the very least it appears that Snoke isn't reaching him. For the moment.
Oh Actually. I lied. Chewie will come by, at some point, and throw a threadbare blanket over Kylo and stuff one of Han's extra jackets under his head. Probably at the behest of Han himself but Yikeesss.
Have fun with the Watch Kylo Ren duty Finn. TRY NOT TO SHOOT HIM.
(Whenever Rey does finish with that shower Finn will greet her with a 'I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS.' okay? okay.) ]
DARTH MAUL HAS NO DICK TO PROCREATE WITH. also fight me on this timeskip
[ She reminds Finn as she lumbers into the cargo hold, freshly changed into a spare set of clothes. But here they are. This is their life now, and they've hardly had the time to adapt to it. Finn snorts an agreement, and sighs heavily as he slumps back against the wall. ]
I'll take over.
[ Finn shakes his head and insists he isn't going to leave her alone with him, narrowing his stare at the heap that is now Kylo Ren. He feels he failed her the first time. Rey touches his arm as she comes to sit beside him. From there, it's a matter of Finn trying to wrap his mind around her new abilities. She doesn't know how to explain it, she tells him. The conversation continues well into the night, until Chewbacca comes to relieve them both from their post.
Han lingers like a shadow in the doorway, seemingly uncertain of himself.
It only takes a handful of hours to reach their destination: a remote planet in the Outer Rim, lush with sprawling jungles. Humid, a density to the air that is inescapable, but well-hidden. Leia believed it would be safer, Han explains, as Finn sheds his jacket and complains about the cloying moisture in the air.
He leads the charge out of the Falcon. Leia is a small blip in the distance, standing tall — dignified, despite the gleam of concern in her wizened, hardened eyes. She gathers Rey to her first and then backs up, taking a long look at her. It's unsettling. Like she can almost see through her, look through her. The nagging sensation contends with the warmth that has flooded Rey's chest at the immediate acceptance, though it's suddenly doused as Han comes marching toward them.
'You can't get rid of me that easily,' he tells her, all swagger. A mask for his nervousness as Leia tugs on the lapels of his jacket, and mutters, 'I never could.' Her smile softens her. Rey has the distinct impression she is intruding on a private moment and steps back.
Truth be told, it simply feels like she's intruding, that she and Finn are outsiders in this reunited family. Finn must feel similarly, for he follows her back the step that she takes, only to swivel his head and call out to Poe when he spies him in the small crowd that has lined up to greet them. ]
They could adopt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And then Leia notes Han's stance, the way he is a bit stiff when kissing her which-- could be the time apart. But time apart had never made Han so jilted--
'You're hiding something,' She observes, probably loudly enough for Rey to hear.
And Han, he does his best to deflect with a laugh and scruffing at the back of his head, 'Who me? What could I have to hide?'
And that's when the crowd which has begun to surround the Falcon silences as Chewie fumbles down the ramp with Kylo Ren on his shoulder (not fireman's hold I am sorry), arm slung around him as if he was carrying an injured comrade and not a monster.
Leia's eyes widen-- then narrow and she barely manages to stop herself from slapping Han right there. A single hand grips at the shirt her estranged husband wears so tightly her knuckles lose color and she's hit with a bevvy of emotions all at once.
'Back on the Falcon,' Chewie starts to complain, but Leia snaps louder. 'Now.'
There's no room for argument here and Chewie, Han, and Kylo are dragged back to the Falcon swiftly---
Just before the crowd explodes into chatter-- specifically surrounding Rey and Finn to ask them WHAT THE FUCK. How did they knock out Kylo? Was he actually dead? Were they planning on executing him? They couldn't hold him prisoner could they?
Back in the main hold-- Kylo can feel whatever Chewie hit him with start to wear off-- start to. Which means he's seeing vague blobs and shapes moving and feels like upending the contents of his stomach on the floor. It's at that point he can hear-- his mother. General Organa. He's fucked and he knows it. His mother was a hardass, a stickler for rules. His father must have brought him here to die because he can't imagine there's any other use for him anywhere.
'How could you do something so stupid?!' Ah-- the same old argument.
'Stupid? You asked me to bring back our son.' Kylo tries to move a finger but finds he can't quite feel it-- or his hand... or his bones really. He's a sack of gelatin.
'Did he come willingly?' His head pounds. He wonders if it's the drugs or Snoke. Possibly a mixture of both.
'What does that mean?' What would happen when he didn't report to Snoke? Snoke must know something is wrong. He'd come to save him before... rather. Sent others. When he was wounded on a battlefield, otherwise unable to get out on his own.
That shouldn't send a spike of fear through him.
'Did you force him to come here?' That's aimed at both Chewbacca and Han-- the awkward shuffling answers her more than any retort could.
Kylo groans, trying to pull himself upright-- which is just proving far too much for him as he's drugged and bound. His vision is spinning and he collapses back on to the small bench with even that little effort.
'You gave him too much--' Leia's response is curt and Chewie howls at the accusation. 'He's a grown man not a rancor.'
Chewie hardly seems apologetic, he was working on the fly, there was no room for hemming or hawing.
'He needs to vomit--' and as if to round the both of them off, 'I need to take care of the mess you just brought me.'
Honestly-- it's hard to tell if Leia's angry or relieved or-- what any one in this family is feeling right now. Congrats Rey. Here's the broken family of people you so greatly admired. She'll be met with Leia leaving the Falcon like a woman on a mission. She had arrangements to make. Lots of them. Where would they hold him, how would they handle this diplomatically. How the HELL were they going to keep him here? And how was she emotionally supposed to handle this? ]
ep 9: boba fett and darth maul are actually rey's parents
Her head throbs with it as their anxieties wash over her. No, not just anxieties. Beneath it, she can taste bitter anger, resentment, a lust for blood. There are many present who will call for Kylo Ren's head, grieving the losses they've suffered at the hands of the First Order.
Poe is among them. Good riddance. The galaxy is better off without monsters like Kylo Ren, she hears him say. As if she's heard his voice ring out, Leia's stare hardens. She continues without another word, emanating focus and resolve. Poe hurries after her. 'I'm calling for an emergency meeting,' she informs him without missing a beat. 'Gather the others. That's an order.'
If she intends to keep Ben's head on his shoulders, she'll need to take the initiative, head off any cries for his execution. In the meantime, Finn has pushed a path through the crowd, holding fast to Rey's wrist.
The meeting proceeds without them, as to be expected. Rey and Finn are still newcomers, and those that have gathered in the briefing room hold more prestigious titles, higher ranks. They look to her, but the tension in the room is a heavy blanket when she rises to speak. Kylo Ren is a valuable prisoner, she informs him. Should he cooperate, the intel he could provide would bring an advantage to their side.
Even as she frames it in a logical, level-headed light, the divide is clear. Some see her solution as shrewd; they should gauge how cooperative he may be, once he's had time to change his mind and decide if protecting the First Order is more valuable to him than his own life. But there's a large majority that insists he's a threat that should be eliminated as swiftly as possible. He's dangerous, they say. More so if the rumors prove true, if his abilities are more than whispers made to frighten them.
'This isn't a negotiation,' Leia tells them. If they have an issue with it, they can discuss it with her in her office. She adds that as she dismisses them, and orders Kylo Ren to be taken to a holding cell. It won't contain him, and it will take a strong mind to resist any of his attempts to influence them, but it's a start. ]
careful. some people would probably think thats an improvement.
'Watch him,' She knows very well the level of disdain Poe has for her son, but she has to trust the respect he has for her is more.'You have first shift, report to me when it's over.'
Poe agrees begrudgingly as suddenly they have to clear the way to march Kylo Fucking Ren through the halls. The air is practically electric as comm units beep with reports. Han and Chewie reporting into Leia who reports to guards and commanders and the chaos is only broken by the noise of the large entrance opening-- the thick humid air permeating the artificially cooled base as Chewbacca marches in the man himself. His hands are bound and his feet drag. Chewbacca has to hold him up, he's still struggling to get his feet under him.
Do you know what it's like being forced to vomit by a wookiee and Han Solo? No great. (YEA THE DRUGS WERE IN HIS BLOODSTREAM AND NOT HIS STOMACh WHATEVER THIS IS MY FANFIC NOW BITCH) Even worse is Han Solo both trying to make up for lost time and being your father, but then also being incredibly angry, but then ALSO being incredibly awkward.
His parents hardly spoke to him-- understandable. If they fraternized with him too much they would be compromised. He was the monster. He'd always been. And it's not hard to feel that way as every eye follows him, every person holds their breath, and though his abilities are dulled he can feel the Force churning around him.
And then he feels her.
He'd felt her vaguely, he could feel himself reach for her, yearn for her. It was confusing. He'd read of such things before, but they were between a parent and their child. A master and his student. Forged by blood or extreme bond. He shared neither of which with the girl.
But something pulls tight in his chest and releases, she calls for him whether she knows it or not and his eyes scan the crowd for her.
He's still too drugged to make proper eye contact and before he can get any real hold on himself Chewie lets him drop into a small dim room and lets the door slam behind him.
At least there's a bunk. And while he'd like to lay in it, it won't be possible for him to make that distance in his current state. It'll be a few hours or so until he can manage to crawl and pull himself on to it and survey what the fuck just happened. ]
heathens
He's done something to her. Wormed into her mind and impressed himself upon it. That's the only justifiable explanation she has. Perhaps he means to use it to his advantage, urging her toward him in some vain hope that he can guide her into releasing him, but time will surely purge him out of her.
Quickly, she turns on her heel, keen to escape him. Finn hurries after her. In her haste, she nearly slams directly into Leia, and stumbles back with a sheepish grimace. 'You're here. Good,' Leia says, as though she had been waiting for Rey's sudden appearance around the corner. 'Tell me what happened. Both of you.'
She and Finn exchange an uneasy glance, and then shuffle into Leia's office. From there, Leia leads them through recounting what had transpired, nodding along to their separate accounts. When they're done, she's silent for a moment, pondering, and then: 'This stays between us.' Her authority on the matter will be questioned if Kylo Ren is revealed as her son, she clarifies. The time isn't right; first, the Resistance needs their proof that he can be swayed to their side. It's a cold deliberation, but the smart maneuver, the one that will keep his head attached to his shoulders.
'If you'll excuse me, I have to speak with my husband,' she says, and then stands. Rey can feel her eyes, curious, on the lightsabers fastened to her belt, before she ushers them out. 'Help out Poe, would you?' she asks of Rey just as she's moving away, giving her no time to answer.
'I'll come with you,' Finn says, and Rey smiles tightly. ] You should rest. [ Finn's lips part, ready to argue. ] We can handle it on our own.
[ She touches his arm fleetingly, and then moves down the hall. Poe's position, as it turns out, is two-fold: both to keep Kylo Ren inside, and keep the others away. They're still stationed right outside the door to the makeshift holding cells when Rey approaches, regardless, casting her a furtive glance before she disappears behind it. Poe is hunched in one corner, staring hotly through the plexiglass of Kylo's cell, as if he can scorch him with just a look. ]
Oh hey look I play kylo again. But he's not talking.
His mind is like a beehive. Hyperactive and vibrated as his body struggles to obey him. He pulls himself on the bunk by sheer force of will-- and he realizes if he wanted to, at this point he could probably tear this cell down and escape.
If he wanted to.
But there's the crux of the matter. He knows he should be tearing at the walls, he attempts to drum up the energy, the anger and rage to do so. But an apathy has set in, an apathy that he hasn't truly felt in a while. He'd replaced it with other things, kept moving forward and as his mouth feels like cotton, as Chewie finishes his shift and walks away and relays something to him. As he feels his mother ebb and flow around him. Disbelieving, distrusting, and everything in between-- Again he has to wonder if his life really amounted to anything.
Snoke calls for him. Creeps in the shadows and whispers in his mind. It's not the violent assault it had been. Now it's cloying and... worried. Perhaps worried is too strong a term, but it makes him sick anyway.
Unease, distrust. He swallows it and gives Snoke the barest hint he's alive, but leaves it at that.
'You know it's true.'
The words ring through him.
He was going to kill his father, try to prove that he was worthwhile, useful-- that he had some larger destiny. Larger part in all of this.
But hunched in the small cot (too small for his form really) he knows it isn't true. He knows he was lying to himself. Snoke was going to kill him. The only possible way he wouldn't is if he ripped this entire station apart, killed his parents, and brought Luke's head to his master.
But that would mean he was too powerful.
That's when Rey enters.
Even half delirious and exhausted she pings through him. His urge is to turn and look to her, but-- he can feel that Poe is still glaring a hole in the back of his head and he doesn't want to let on to anyone here what's happening. Which... he doesn't even grasp what's happening yet. Why every time she's close by his mind becomes hyper focused on her. She was nothing-- no one. A dirty scavenger and while she was beautiful even covered in grime- it's not as though she should have such a magnetic hold on him.
And that, in turn, is easier to think on then his mortality and the end of his usefulness. So- for the moment, he'll remain curled up and still on the bunk. Eyes closed and focused on her and the puzzle that lay in this.
Poe, in turn, nods towards Rey-- they haven't really had time for a proper introduction. He just knows that Finn likes her, so he likes her-- and half the reason they went to Starkiller was to get her candy ass outta there because she was captured by Kylo Ren. Like. Spark notes, but he's got the basic picture.
'Heard you had the honor of dealing with him,' Him is said like a curse word. 'It's a small club, nice to see someone else make it out alive.'
The implication here fully being Not many do. Not an unfair assessment really. ]
i was going to say 'antisocial kylo ren hour' but like... that's just his existence in general
[ She asks, curious, and Poe confirms it with a nod. Rey latches onto that point of connection, the knowledge that Poe understands her bristling distrust on a level more personal. Finn has endured Kylo Ren for years in the First Order's service, yes, but he has never suffered Ren's violations. Not in the same manner she and Poe have.
'Yeah. I wouldn't have gotten out if it weren't for Finn,' he continues. ]
It looks like we both owe Finn, then. [ Her smile is faint, but genuine. Fond, unmistakably so, and overwhelmed. Finn had been the first to return for her. That isn't forgettable, and the knowledge that he had extended the same compassion to Poe affirms what she already knows: Finn is a good man. Among the best. After a pause, she adds, ] I'm Rey.
[ Poe huffs out a chuckle. Only then does he remove his gaze from Kylo's cramped cell. Tension still creeps along his spine, but he's relaxed minutely, shoulders visibly loosening. 'I know who you are.' She laughs, then. A grin stretches across her face, toothy and ebullient, as if her smile has its own wattage.
'We all know,' he points out. 'Word travels fast.' She doesn't know how she feels about that, truthfully. She's never had that intense scrutiny cast upon her. It's difficult not to feel like she's an animal being studied, a specimen they can't understand. She shakes the thoughts and continues the conversation. How is BB-8? Did they recover the map? 'Still a nuisance,' Poe says, but it's with a fondness to it. As for the map — 'We're working on it.'
Hours tick by. She learns a myriad about Poe: he grew up on Yavin IV, full of jungles not unlike their current planet, with bioluminescent plants and hammering rainstorms. His parents had been pilots, too. She listens raptly, and only when Leia enters does her attention turn from Poe. If nothing else, he has distracted from the buzzing in her brain whenever Kylo Ren is within range.
In Leia's hand sits a tray, filled with rations. In the other, a canteen of water. 'I need to speak with him,' she tells them, though her eyes never stray from Kylo's form. Poe's jaw hardens. 'General, he's dangerous—' but whatever he'd been prepared to say, whatever guard detail he'd wanted to offer, is dismissed.
'Alone,' Leia insists. Poe casts her one last glance over his shoulder as he and Rey move out of the room, standing just beyond it. Just in case, Poe says, skeptical. ]
You just described Kylo Ren COngrats
It must have been at Luke's camp. He tries to bring the memory to mind but with those memories come anxieties and he snaps that door shut as soon as it's open. And then he's offered a reprieve.
Well-- thought he was offered a reprieve. Instead his moth--the general wants to speak with him. Possibly try to reason with him. He stays facing the wall like a child. Petulant, moody-- only after the door is shut and he's assured that Poe and Rey are not witness to this act does he let go of any tension--
And then she begins to speak.
First offering food, saying he must be hungry, or thirsty. Those drugs did him no favor, he can't expect to subsist on air and spite alone. The air hangs still between them and he refuses to budge, so quietly she tries to appeal to her son. Saying that It isn't like him at all to turn down a meal, and she seals the entire sentence by saying his old name. ]
Your son is dead. [ His voice is hoarse and soft. It feels as if he's swallowed a wad of tissue paper. ] Didn't Han Solo inform you of that fact?
[ He wants to sound biting. But with the effect of his worn voice and his turned back it has the effect of a petulant child.
Leia pauses, he can feel emotions spike and churn through her. Frustration, anger, sorrow-- things he doesn't choose to identify or examine in these moments. But even still-- she speaks.
'You still need to eat.'
Her fingers graze his back and it's as if she touched him with fire. Distrust and anxiety course through his veins, as potent as any drug, and he leaps up-- his back pressed to the wall and drumming up the courage or will to remain impassive.
But he's a spooked and caged animal, it's clear across his face. He reigns in the heart pounding in his chest, takes stock of her expression and tries to ignore it. Compartmentalize it as a facade, a mask to fool him. His mother had known what he was and discarded him. She was shrewd, she knew Kylo Ren was useful. She would use him and throw him away.
It only made sense.
She sets the food down in front of him and moves away from him-- taking a seat on the bench across from his tiny cot. She doesn't speak, nor engage. Just waits patiently as he calms. It's several long extended minutes. Silent staring and confusion on his end before she gestures to the food and he connects what she's doing. A power play, of course.
He begrudgingly eats. It appeases her for the moment.
But only a moment.
Once she's gathered her bearings-- she starts to speak with him. Specifies where he is, what he's accused of and what type of trouble he's in. Gives him his options. Cooperation would be the best course for him, for the future of the galaxy. He could be apart of something greater, light a beacon of hope for all in the galaxy to see. And then asks him question after question after question.
He doesn't answer. Choosing instead to eat or drink in lieu of speaking. At the very least, she isn't surprised. She asks him about future plans, about what Snoke's ultimate goal was, about supply lines, training, whether specific planets would be used for exploitation in the future, which politician were pawns and which were being held hostage.
He has no answers for her. Snoke isn't here-- he can't feel him at this moment, but it would be unwise to speak either way. Even if it was to mislead. Any bit of food getting stuck in his throat could lead to a bout of anxiety and he's not keen on being ended in such a fashion.
And he's easily able to dismiss every question and remark, remain immobile and emotionless--
'What happened at Luke's?'
He stops chewing. Stilling suddenly and setting the tray aside.
Leia's realized she's hit upon something then.
'What happened with the other students? Why did you kill them?'
His heart starts pounding harder-- he's not sure why, he doesn't examine it. Hasn't examined it in a long time. His skin itches and it's harder to breathe.
'Ben, answer me.'
His mother thinks being stern will work on him as if he was still a child. His mother hasn't known anything about him in a long time. ]
Ask him.
[ His answer is flat and cold. He sets the tray with the half eaten rations and half drunk canteen on the floor and slides it towards Leia-- and curls back on to the cot.
Conversation over. Shut down.
Maybe some day Rey and Kylo will speak with one another. ]
ty, ty
When it becomes clear he won't offer more, she sets her hands on her knees and rises, leaving the tray where it sits.
'Believe it or not,' she says, stopping at the door. 'Your father and I are trying to save you.' And, with that, she disappears around the corner, and catches Poe in the midst of snooping, helplessly trying to catch snippets of a conversation, like a guard dog waiting for any threat to pounce upon. He's heard nothing, of course, but Leia gives him an unimpressed stare. Poe doesn't look apologetic in the least.
Soon after, she turns to Rey. She hates to make the same request of her, she says, but Rey is the only one equipped to resist Kylo's interference. It would be too easy for him to escape, manipulate others into unlocking his cell. Rey looks faintly surprised. ]
How do you — [ She glances at Rey's belt, then, and then back to her with the faintest trace of amusement. Oh. Right. 'I can sense it in you,' she tells Rey, and then pats her on the arm. Guards will be posted directly outside if she needs anything, Leia reassures her, adding that she wouldn't be asking it of her if it weren't imperative.
There's a wall of flexiglass between them, at the very least. There's no danger to her, Leia says. Poe starts to stammer out an argument, insisting he can handle it just fine, but Leia orders him to rest and refuel. He's been at his post long enough. Rey watches them both leave, Poe still arguing along the way, and then slides back into the corridor.
The hum beneath her skin returns with a vengeance, but she ignores its presence as she returns to her corner, intent to ignore the fact that she's been turned into a glorified babysitter for Kylo Ren. ]

He's attempted to get his wits back about him, even sat up to glance at the food the general left and then she comes waltzing back in. His eyes follow her form and he wonders at being left alone with her but-- it makes sense.
He broke Poe. No such luck with Rey.
He's tempted to try again, here, now. Perhaps convince her to open the door and let him walk out, but he can't quite get his teeth into the Force right now. And he hasn't puzzled out entirely why he was forced out so harshly.
Yes she was powerful, that was indisputable. But that didn't account for the fact that he couldn't see into her mind at all. It either meant she was exponentially more powerful than he could imagine, or that he was weaker than he thought. Neither of those ideas sit well with him (And he knows what Snoke would accuse him of) so he's hesitant to put any theory to the test.
Still, it's annoying that he didn't successfully interogate her. Get under her skin and have her spilling secrets that she didn't want to give. It came so easily to him, having one imperfect run was an inexcusable blemish. He rationalizes that as the reason he feels so attracted to her, that and her awakening abilities in the Force. She was untrained, rough around every edge-- but she could be powerful. It was tempting, he was just following the footsteps of others before him. Really, it was his duty to show her how to wield her powers.
Rationalization upon rationalization. It builds in his head until all the chatter comes to a halt when his eyes land on her belt.
Two light sabers. His grabs his attention immediately, but then the other.
His eyes narrow and-- for the moment he decides to say nothing. He finds it hard to believe she ever held a lightsaber in her life.
Remember how long We said they're gonna go with out talking? Kylo is taking a dump all over that.
THIS IS HIS FANFIC NOW BITCH. ]
Has Han Solo proven to be the father you've dreamed of?
[ He fully doesn't expect her to respond. His language is inflammatory on purpose. If he's going to talk to himself, might as well rile her to the point she gets angry. ]
no subject
It isn't trepidation that attaches itself to her limbs and turns them rigid. Kylo Ren is a defanged creature, locked away inside his cage, and she refuses to be afraid of him. To give him that sense of visceral power over her. But it is unsettling to be under his scrutiny once more, to hear that timber of his voice again, directed back at her like he means to extract more from her.
Her skin crawls. Prickles with gooseflesh. Ignoring him would be the strategic decision. She can't help but to respond — scathingly, at that. ]
I could ask you the same.
[ It stings, to some degree. Kylo Ren is a monster, and even his parents have shown their dedication to returning for him. Han Solo has been walking around with a void inside of him after the loss of his son; he'll no longer need her to fill it, no longer have a place for her on his crew, now that he has his own flesh and blood returned to him.
More significantly, it makes her despise Kylo further, envious of the family he has thrown away. The family he continues to throw away, sullen and unresponsive in his cell. ]
If you're trying to provoke me into opening your cell, it won't work.
[ That's what this is, isn't it? An attempt to free himself by goading her into anger, into confronting him physically. Her eyes bore holes into him with a laser-focus where she sits, a contradiction of exhausted alertness. ]

She hadn't blocked him out. Not traditionally-- But where as he had been feeling anxious and weak, lashing out at her to provoke a reaction a need to prove in some way he was powerful-- she was stubborn, resolute, bold. He feels it in the way he sits up and how his breathing starts to change.
She had gripped into his mind easily, just as he had pushed into hers.
It wasn't a wall-- but an exchange. There's no way she realizes it, or if she did that she'd accept it. Especially not coming from him.
His mind clicks faster, now given a problem to solve he doesn't feel as useless. He's working through this problem and trying to bend it to his favor. A curiosity more than anything, how far did this go? ]
Do you not feel accepted? [ He prods more. Her unasked questions, her responses, they aren't important. More over they're boring. More boring than the puzzle he's stumbled across. ]
Afraid they're preparing to replace you already?

The Resistance would tally it against him in an instant. Another blemish against Kylo Ren, another example to point to in support of an execution. It would be a deserved punishment, but her sympathy for Han — for Leia — stays her hand. Or, in this case, her tongue; she won't disclose what he's struggling to do, even while confined to a cell.
Something tells her it would be a greater punishment, greater justice, for him to survive. To look into the face of what he's done, grappling with the consequences of his confinement and the stains of his past, rather than face any executioner. ]
Stay out of my head. [ She hisses, slow and venomous. ] You've failed. Nothing will change that now.
[ Not even prying into her mind like the parasite he is. ]
no subject
[ He sits up straighter on the cot then, setting his feet on the ground and boring a hole into her eyes with how closely he studies her. Staring through her more than at her. ]
No. [ He answers his own question. Clarifies. The Force is singing between them, there's a tension in the room that's undeniable. A draw between them. ] You're in denial.
[ He states it as he would state the color of the sky or reciting a verse from the Jedi texts. She didn't want to be tied to him, obviously. She'd let that cloud the more interesting quandary of why they could be tied together. ]
no subject
You've done something. [ The accusation is hard, flinty. A theory she truly believes. What she knows of him supports that argument, at any rate; Kylo Ren would sink so low as to implant himself inside of her mind, but to what end? Influence over her mind? No, that hadn't worked the first time, but it goes give her hope that she can eject him just the same, just as forcibly as she had once done. ] That's all I need to know.
[ Deep-seated denial, yes, compounded with warranted suspicion. It is easier to fault him than it is to search for an alternative explanation, to look more deeply into the strange sensation haunting her. Even more so when he is pressing her to reflect on it, mangling his intentions into a belief that this, too, is a means of toying with her for his own gain. His own amusement. ]
I'm not going to play your games.
no subject
[ He doubts it, he doesn't even need to search her to confirm that. She's hiding this from the Resistance. They aren't quite her comrades after all. ]
no subject
[ He hasn't denied it, at the very least, and so she clings tighter to it as a justification. If anything, she is more convinced he is patronizing her, leading her along with questions simply to mock her for her inexperience. ]
I'm not telling you anything.
[ He's not going to gain much from her directly answering any of his questions but ? ? ? He's Kylo Ren, and she isn't giving him that benefit of the doubt, doesn't trust that he won't cling to whatever he can to gain the upper-hand. ]
