I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.

I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.

I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

[ She goes silent in there. The light he shines for her shows that she has set her hydrospanner down to put some real thought towards this instead of just continuing on with her work. It's hard to swallow, hard to see herself as special. She can't quite assign a reason to it.

Without reason, she decides it's not worth engaging. So she sets her reservations aside and takes up the tool again, resolved. ]

She sort of figures that her movement will cue him and she doesn't need to worry about a heads up. This may not be true if he's still deliberately avoiding staring at her. ]

She points behind him. ]

The fuel lines wind all the way up to the cockpit. Do you know where to find them? We'll need to detach them at both sides before we can start coiling them, so I was thinking if you can go detach them on that end, I can start on this side and meet you there when I'm done.

Anyhow he's recovering quickly. They still have shit to do and he doesn't want his dad to have any more ammo then he already (always) has.

[ He slips out and she watches him go. Like, really watches him go, if you know what I mean. And then she gets back into the crawl space and starts unhooking fuel lines.

It's tedious work. And it works well to distract her for that reason. Rey can shut the darkness out without any conscious effort, clearing her mind in the monotony. It's an hour, nearly two later when she heads to the cockpit. She's sweating at this point, and it's only compounded with how dirty she was already. She's definitely not living her best, freshest life.

She comes up from behind him, clanging around. ]

[ He's bent at an awkward angle and twisting at the last line. The main thing which has slowed him down is the fact that he's not a tiny person, or even an averaged sized person. He's fucking huge and that just makes fitting into any relatively small space not a great time.


But it also means this time. His ass is up for admiration as he's bent under the control panel and having to use the side of the pilot's chair as leverage as he tugs at the line. ]

Almost. [ Mumbled and-- at the very least he still had his gloves on him because oh my god this ship is so fucking dirty.
But a few more twists and a good thorough tug and it comes loose.

He braces a hand on he control panel above him (He's already banged the crown of his head on it a few times. He's ~learned~) and pushes back so he can twist to direct his attention to Rey. ]

[ You know, someone (mun or muse) want to make up an excuse for her to crawl in there with him. Otherwise he's finished,


And so ready for a shower. Oh my god what a glorious day. ]

[ Yeah, Rey would love to help him with a good, thorough tug. She's feeling that too, surveying his position. She gets caught when he turns around, but she doesn't look flustered. It's not like that. She's drawn to him as a teacher, as a guide in the Force. The bond they share is something beyond the fact that his ass is so well shaped. ]

Perfect. Go ahead and start pulling them out. I'll coil them, and we can check on the water tanks. Then we can get out of here.

[ Together. She feels weird saying that after all this time, but … She's ready. She thinks. ]

For now i can only imagine what Rey is seeing.

He gives her a curt little nod and starts pulling, handing off the length to her. He notes that maybe he should be disturbed how easily it is to form a routine with her. Most times when partnered with someone, they'd get frustrated with his quiet or how quick he was to pick up on certain tasks. Here he worries about neither.

And for this moment, he won't pry about how she feels about the whole. Leaving Jakku thing. He feels she's got enough swirling around her head already, no need to add more. ]

[ Yeah I bet he wants to hand off the length to her. Alright. Innuendo aside, Rey takes it as he continues to pull it free of the wall panel and coils it. The fuel line clunks around in the wall paneling as it drags from the engineering bay clear this way.

It's boring work, but she's able to enjoy his company in the quiet. She's used to the quiet, and having someone to share it with makes it companionable .Warmer, somehow.

Eventually they get both coiled up and Rey hooks one loop over her shoulder, gesturing for Kylo to do the same with the other fuel line. Then she waves him on with her and circles around the ship to the reservoirs.

They're tucked away under some other shit, hidden by floor panels, so she drops the coiled fuel lines and starts to open those floor panels up. ]

[ The floor panels come up and reveal a wide basin the size of an above-ground pool but tucked away inside the ship's flooring. It's probably a 3,000 gallon tank, but it doesn't look entirely full. Maybe two third of the way, judging by the minor sloshing going on from Rey moving around.

The opening to the tank is pretty wide, notably. It's meant to fit a giant three-foot diameter hose to fill it speedily. ]

[ HES NOT THINKING ABOUT THAT TOO DEEPLY (heh heh) AT THE MOMENT. HE DOES NOT WANT TO HAND OFF HIS LENGTH TO ANYONE HE IS FINE WITH HIS LENGTH IN HIS PANTS.

But even he has to admit the silence is nice. He was honestly afraid for a huge long interrogation about his family and what they were like and if hey had proof of their adventures and the usual 20 questions bullshit. Like.... it's Very nice that Rey, though excited about his family, isn't treating this like an interview for a high school research paper. In turn, he's not being a jack ass and trying to take the lead. He does truthfully know his way around ships, but Rey seems to be a competent (if not OSHA breaking) lead. His ego is not hurt by following a 14 year old girl. ]

Well it does mean an extra couple of minutes in the shower.

He places the hoses next to hers and kinda circles around the basin of water. It's a lot. Like Han and Chewie would look at this and shrug. Heavily. A lot. ] What's the plan?

[ Glancing up to her in the dim lighting. Between not quite swolo and girl with surprising strength, they aren't to be underestimated. ]

[ Rey climbs down on top of the tank and loosens the seal on the tank. The circular lid twists and releases some pressure with a popping sound. She pulls it away and shoves it up on top of the floor panels to look in. ]

It doesn't look too bad. Worth filtering, for sure.

[ Two days ago, she'd have drunk from it right now. But she has a mostly full canteen on her hip today, thanks to Ben. She pulls out her flashlight and shines it down and … grimaces a little. ]

There's debris.

[ She looks up at him and shakes her head. ]

The water's mostly clean, but debris like that'll get stuck in a filtration system. Tear it all to pieces.

[ So they have mostly clean water but for the floaty silt and peeled plastic that make it death to a ship's filtration system. And two really sweaty bodies. I hope I don't have to spell out where this is obviously going. ]

[ Rey sits back on her heels, huffing out a sigh. It feels like a stupid thing now that it's more effort than it's worth. His joke about the Force Lift (because it surely must have been a joke — no one could lift two thousand gallons of water in a three thousand gallon tank) doesn't even get a full laugh out of her because, well, she'd invested her hopes into being able to do this one stupid thing for him.

It shouldn't be a big deal. ]

It seems a shame to just leave it.

[ She looks up at him. The flashlight makes evident the spots where fuel had stained her clothes from disconnecting the lines, and it's sticky and mixed with the oil and grease and dirt on the patches of exposed skin. She leans over the opening — considerable in size, easily large enough for a person to slip in through — and dips her fingertips in the water.

She's scarcely seen so much usable water before in her life. Whenever she did, it wasn't hers. She'd probably have been killed for using any of it in those circumstances. ]

It's warm. [ from being buried underground for so long probably. Not hot, exactly, but a solid eighty plus degrees. She looks up at Ben. ]

What was that you were saying about a hot bath?

[ Perfect. Yes. This is cool and great. It's not at all concerning the way she feels her pulse quicken when she watches him strip out of his gloves. Suddenly aware of her breath, Rey feels the world around her slow down. As though it were dilating around them.

That's not the point, she reminds herself. She's not trying to attract anyone. She shifts to a better sitting position on the tank and strips off her boots, tossing them up to join the pile he's making of his clothes amongst the coiled fuel lines. Then she stands and works off her belt and hood and goggles.
