Kylo/Hux: This is such a huge maybe it's almost a no. I am not down for fluffy Kylo/Hux. I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.

I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.

I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

Are you sure you actually want me to come with you? You're not making a very convincing case.

[ This is delivered bluntly. Out of anyone else, it might be a joke, but Rey is very serious. At this point she feels pretty confident in saying that he's not entirely sold on it himself right now — as a result, his efforts to evangelize her feel … lacking. Soulless. She surveys him, partly in skepticism and partly in measure of his abilities.

And there's something else there too.

She's realizing that this daily routine — scavenging, scrapping parts — it's all more doable with company. This doesn't feel half as agonizing. Partly because of the conversation, partly because now that she's done the hard work of removing it, he can be the one to carry the component.

It's hard to balance that with her uncertainty about joining him. His presence matters to her, makes her life a little bit better in ways she can't help but notice, yet she's not sure that anything he's actually offering is right for her at all because of all their mutual hang-ups. [ The first clue that Rey has it bad is in the fact that he keeps touching her and she keeps letting him. Not slapping him away, not bristling, not getting ready for a fight. In fact, she doesn't even raise her hackles. Perhaps because in the back of her mind, she can feel his intent, and she knows not to be afraid of him. The rest of the world can mean her harm, but she can feel Ben Solo's intent, and he would only protect her.

What he says, then, only puts voice to this thing that they have not otherwise proven able to substantiate and define. She whips around to look up at him, and her eyes go soft and wide and glassy as he makes this declaration that's more insistent upon her value than anything she's ever heard in her life. What he says makes it painfully clear that his concern is with keeping her company, whatever it takes.

She's never been anyone's priority before.

Something claws its way up her throat. It's the sort of panic that emerges from not knowing how to react because it's just so much that he dumps at her feet. For a moment, she even thinks he might kiss her. This is usually when people kiss. That's the look, the feeling, the kind of thing they say. She's sure of that because she's heard stories.

Except he doesn't kiss her. In fact, his mouth looks set in a firm, imploring line of a desperate man. The thought of her staying here, she realizes, scares him. It scares him because he'll lose her, and he can't stand the idea of leaving her behind.

(Like her parents did.)

There's the rest too, of course. There's the fact that she's never been offered a fair wage and a reasonable job and a place where she feels safe like she has felt safe on the Falcon. All the things he has brought into her life with him, he offers those too. She'd be a fool to refuse it — especially when he has offered her the only thing she is missing here, a path to her parents.

It's a good thing he's holding that hyperdrive component or she'd be hugging him right now. And that'd be a bad path to go down in the dim corners of a husk of a light freighter. Slowly, wetting dry lips, she nods. ]

Okay. [ A beat. ] I'll come.

[ A lame finish to his declaration. But it's a big deal for her. Monumental. ]

[ She doesn't need his help getting out, exactly, but she does prompt him to help her out by putting his knee out because she's small and he's a giant and she's not going to neglect to use her resources just to prove a point. Her continued survival has proven that point already. She's not here to prove her capabilities to anyone — she's well aware of them, and so is Ben.

So Rey gets her heel on his leg and grabs onto the edges of the hole, which have cooled down partially and then heated up in the midday sun so it's touch and go. Luckily she's wearing gloves. She hoists herself up and wriggles in the process of adjusting her grip while bearing all her weight. It's an exciting process that involves almost kicking him in the head to get herself momentum.

Anyway. The really exciting part is when she's almost out but she does have a little bit of difficulty pulling herself up so there's more definitive wriggling and squirming of her butt getting out of there. Probably just enough to get him to reach out to help and find it was mostly unnecessary as she pulls herself free a moment later.

Just. All kinds of teenage ass in his face. Luckily she wears that mostly shapeless wrap that is completely hanging loose and not covering her Actually Shapely Butt in Those Pants while this is going on.

Anyway it's fine. I'm sure Ben isn't bothered at all.

She slides down the side of the hull and pulls her canteen out to chug a portion of what's left. She's not going to be able to find more, so she only drinks like a quarter of it. Some for Ben now, and some for both of them after they've got the fuel lines. It's rationing. If he can free himself successfully, when he comes down, she's wiping water stray water spray from her lips into her mouth and extending the canteen to him. ]

God now i need to come up with a name for HER AT LEAST. Shamelessly calls her Mara

[ She takes the canteen back and caps it. Then she shakes it to get a sense of how full it is. After a moment's judgment, she nods. It'll do. It's still a little overfull for her liking, but he probably won't die. Probably. And there's likely more water on the Falcon — she hopes there is, anyway.

The canteen gets clipped to her belt, and then they're scaling the steep slope of sand back to where the Falcon is parked. Her boots carry sand with them, and it rains off the toe each time she lifts her knees. She keeps ahead of him despite his long legs. It's hard to take advantage of stride length on something this steep, and she's practiced.

But it doesn't take long to get back to the Falcon. Not really. A half hour, maybe, and only some of it at that incline. Rey's sweaty and disgusting when she hits the cargo ramp, but not out of breath. ]

I refuse to apologize for this tag. Rey has earned this.

[ Han comes climbing in from whichever maintenance hatch he found himself working in for the morning. Googles pushed up over his hairline gloves on, a tool in his hand. He has a look of Concern.

Then he sees his son is stripping and he's not even concerned about his son PULLING OFF HIS SHIRT IN FRONT OF REY (NOTSAFEFORREY)-- YOU KNOW WHAT HIS ASS IS CONCERNED ABOUT.

'SONICS ONLY. Don't you Dare use up all our water--'

Ben shoots a look over his bare shoulder. A shoulder which young eyes shouldn't see. ]

Chewbacca just makes a noise that can be equated to "just fukkin give up on this shit". ]

Ten. We have enough water for ten minutes.

[ Oh here's a canteen in her hands from Mom. Very good. She hugs it to her chest like even though they gave it to her she still feels the need to guard it from them. She replaces the canteen on her belt with the new one Chewie had given her and opens up her old one to drain the other half of it just

It's gone by the time Han relents. She lowers the canteen and licks her lips to clean away the water that had spilled around her mouth in her eagerness to drink it. She sets the canteen aside on a stack of crates and starts after Ben. ]

[ For a minute, Rey's just left staring at the closed door. Something prickles up the back of her neck. This is it. This is the Sexual Awakening. Like she's discovered her own body before in her life and she knows girl and boy parts are different but she's been fucking busy thank you and not had an opportunity to actually develop attraction to another person and

And there's any other number of logical issues here, but Han takes a good long look at her and then turns to Chewie.

Chewie shrugs and makes a noise that means 'I like her.' Rey grins.

[ Later, Ben will tell her that his father seems honestly impressed with her work because half his crew wouldn't be able to get the right components in a week. [ Ready indeed. Rey double checks her belt as she hustles after him, gulping down the rest of her protein bar. Already in the past twenty-four hours she's had more food than ever in one day. She's liable to feel a little queasy from it later, but her body is just like OH WAIT WE'RE NOT STARVING ANYMORE ??? HELL YES. and loving this life, so. That's a thing.

Anyway.

Despite her apparent haste, for she does walk fast, Rey doesn't quite jog back to the freighter. It's stupid and a waste of energy to do anything more than fast-walk in dunes, and especially in the heat. No matter how thin her clothing's fabric is. That's really the thing that sticks out most about Ben's outfit, honestly. It's all the wrong materials.

They climb back into the freighter the way they'd come. Rey goes first, content to accept the help of Ben's sheer size in climbing up there, and waits for him inside. ]

You know, there might be water in here too that we could salvage. It'll have stagnated and need to be filtered, but it'd be worth checking the reserves and seeing if there's a way we could carry it up.

[ Logically she knows that other planets do not suffer a water scarcity. But she's trying to be sweet about his showers and on Jakku that's how it goes. You share water. ]

[ There is so much about Ben Solo that sticks out that she isn't aware of. The stiff way he walks and holds himself, his unnerving quiet, how insanely dark his hair is, and how he seemingly got all of his parents most awkward features and yet it still works for him. When he was younger, these things didn't matter as much. Now, of course, it's a different story.

But strangely, for how out of the ordinary he sees to Rey it doesn't bother him all that much. Admittedly part of it is because of how he's been treated by everyone else, but even then. For a girl he just met this feels... weirdly normal. He's trying not to examine it too much, instead drinking water when she bitches at him tells him to do so and taking whatever sassy comment she has on his clothing. It's all good. Excuse them as they are back in the dark guts of the ship that is Super Danger Zone to be honest.
