Kylo/Hux: This is such a huge maybe it's almost a no. I am not down for fluffy Kylo/Hux. I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.

I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.

I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

The thought should give him freedom, but it doesn't. It makes him question everything, himself, his family-- why hadn't anyone known? Or investigated? What had Luke been doing all that time? His mother hadn't sensed anything wrong? And-- these are all questions for another time. He can't get lost in them.

He pulls her closer because for now that seems to tuck her away from whatever was haunting them. She's so slight in his arms and-- he realizes she's a hardy thing. He'd seen the way she'd bashed Plutt's head in and knew her way around these wrecks, but in this moment she feels fragile.

He pulls back to get a better look at her and-- Oh. Oh here was the shit we were talking about????

I'll let you write it all out in your head because it's flowery and gross and Ben is horrified at me even typing it about a 14 year old girl. I will let The Knack do the talkin'. I want you to appreciate. How long. I've been wanting to bust out that song.

Though her question shocks him out of any My Sharona thoughts. ]

No-- [ It's quick and low and ??????? ] -- No, of course not.

[ She was literally just... standing there, helping him and his dumb ass father and wookiee uncle out. She hadn't done anything wrong. And all at once between her racing mind and his own experience it begins to click into place: ]

[ She's slight in his arms. She had not been able to take notice of it last night, when she was shaking out of that nightmare, trembling, afraid. She notices now. He's a broad, sculpture of a man and she fits like a doll against him, tiny by contrast if not by nature. She feels as small next to him as she does next to the star destroyers buried in the sands here.

But that's not the point. He's reassuring her. That's the point. Some part of her resists believing him even though she can feel that he's not deceiving her. It's a paranoia, something deep and doubtful in the back of her mind that wants her to believe he might still leave.

It's not her, though. She forces it away, so alien as it is to her. She believes in hope. Ben had told her he cared about her, that he wanted to help her. He wasn't going to just leave. No one would convince him of that. She would be ridiculous to worry about that. ]

I heard you talking.

[ Her mouth feels dry as she says it. ]

You were warning someone about me.

[ He resists the urge to brush away hair that isn't in her face from her eyes. He resists the urge to run his thumb across her cheek. He's resisting a lot of urges right now and it's.

Really confusing.

Okay But. Seriously. Not his main concern tho. Probably will be tonight, in the dark. With her curled up sleeping a few feet away from him. But you know. It's cool. Whatever. ]

I'm sorry-- [ Apology first. Good boy. ] -- I didn't realize he-- [ Shit-- no not just "he" ] My uncle showed up.

[ Quite. Literally. ]

I wasn't warning him, I wanted to try and get his thoughts on what's happening to us.

It's now only occurring to Ben that while he did Step Out of the conversation really quickly, it would be insane that his uncle's power could have been cut off so easily.

And you know. He's thinking it's the darkness

when really it's just their bond. ]

[ His uncle? Luke Skywalker had been here? And one of the first things he'd learned about her before ever meeting her was of this creeping darkness that she felt to blame for? She'd wanted that, though. She'd wanted Skywalker's thoughts, a way to stop this. A way to turn it all off. But now she's realizing that all of this goes away, if she does. Ben. Chewie. Han. Every decent thing that has suddenly crashed into her life, and she doesn't want to give it up.

She clings to him still, her arms loose around his shoulders, one hand planted on the back of his neck as though she intends to pull him back in at any moment. She doesn't, though. Instead, she seems to be catching her breath. What had winded her in the first place? Unclear. ]

Stay here with me while I get the parts. [ It all comes out at once after a pregnant pause. She has to force out the request because she is afraid he'll refuse. Quickly, she comes up with an explanation, ] You said you'd teach me. You can explain while I work. [ Another beat. ] Please.

[ You know out of all this. Out of the excessive touching and holding and winded breathlessness like she'd just seen him Shirtless for the first time and the sudden spoken WANT for him to stay there with her--

It's the "please" that throws him off.

Like. No offense but Rey didn't seem the "please" type. And not just in a "she's a teenager and they are shitty people" type way, but just as a Person she doesn't say please. ]

Yeah. [ DANGER DANGER. He comes to the realization that one of his hands hands founds it's way into the baby fine hair on her neck. DANGER DANGER. That guitar riff is starting up hard right now. This is so much harder to navigate with this and he didn't even get to explain to Luke the weirdness of this. Like. He's not attracted to kids. He doesn't think he's attracted to kids. He never saw any other young teenagers these days and thought "yeah that seems like something I would want naked"

She's getting all worried about whether he wants her around at all when he's clearly been telegraphing it. And now he's getting freaked out by his attraction to her. SMDH. I'm still gonna be pissed if they make it to sex before 268 tbh.

[ Good use of humor to diffuse a situation, Solo. A+++ ] It's just like I said yesterday, first you need to work to clear your mind.

[ He jokes, but honestly … Rey is glad that he wouldn't know his way back. It's very healthy and not at all possessive and a little weird. : ) He needs her. He can't leave her if he needs her. Rey notices that he has grown tense around her, though, wrestling with something. Stiff. His hands brush over the cloth covering her shoulders, her arms. ]

I don't think you need to wear those anymore.

[ She tells him of his gloves, looking pointedly at them. ]

I touched you, and we were fine.

[ Maybe they were in more control. Maybe they were more in sync. Maybe Luke's presence had tempered it, and the connection had been swallowed in the effort of shutting him out. Regardless, Rey doesn't wait for him to remove them to turn around and get back to what she was doing.

She's not good at sentimental. Working on this gives her something to keep her occupied, and it helps to clear her mind. Working on the hyperdrive is mindless in that way. ]

What do you focus on to clear your mind?

[ You know what's gonna be great tho?

He's gonna be so uncomfortable about those Rey being his main Squeeze jokes now that Han is gonna lay off of them. You know. Right as Ben is at a critical Tipping point.

[ She glances at him over her shoulder. Which sounds fine, but when you factor in that she has gotten back on her hands and knees to get into the guts of the hyper drive and remove a component that rotating it has revealed, it's just close enough to an imitation of something sultry to be uncomfortable. It's narrowly saved by the skeptical look on her face.

He's tense. She can feel that he's uncomfortable. He clearly could use another lesson or two about clearing his mind, though she's not experienced enough (thank GOD) to parse what's distracting him.

She gets to work then, unbolting a component so she can get it out of her way. It's really cranked tight, though, so she has to turn back away from him and Let the Sass Die so she can put her back into it. There's grunting involved, but the bolts come loose and she hauls this huge metal behemoth of a casing off and tosses it aside.

All that material, wasted on a casing. But what she wants is inside. ]

[ You know every time Kylo Ren thinks why didn't he meet Rey sooner in his life?????

He is so confused how Rey goes from trying to mold herself to his side to throwing some major shade at him in like. One tag flat but let me tell you the answer Ben Solo: Tsundere. Repeat after me. Tsundere.

Anyhow, that's not his main concern at the moment. His main concern is... well... Beyond the fact that REY IS JUST FREELY ROLLING AROUND IN THE GUTS OF A SHIP WHICH POSSIBLY KILL HER??? Child slavery is no joke in these parts. But the darkness concerns him. And specifically ruminating on it isn't going to do any good. It seemed ready to move in swiftly, way too swiftly for his liking. At this point it's looking as though staying here with Rey was the best decision to make.

In the meantime, he is Not going to grab himself an eyeful of underage ass. Nope. He'll just turn to the side so he dos not contemplate under age ass and add to all of his problems. ]

[ Thanks sass master. He'll just stand over here and think of his dumb fucking ocean himself. ]

[ She offers no further explanation than this. A moment later literally her entire upper body disappears into the guts of the hyperdrive with her hydrospanner, and her banging around echoes around in it. Maybe she'll hear him if he replies???

Regardless she seems to be taking his advice. Focusing on her breathing, slowing it, calming it, embracing the monotony of the task. It has worked for her thus far, so it makes sense, and she has no fond memories. Total presence, perfect self-examination in the moment, this will work for her.

A distant thought distracts her that maybe, eventually, she'll be able to think on moments with him as times she found peace. That moment in the Falcon for example, last night, when he'd held her. But that wasn't exactly peace. Something had simmered beneath the surface of that interaction. She doesn't let it preoccupy her too much.

This ridiculous family has been the only positive influence her life has seen. She's not going to ruin it by examining it too closely. ]

[ ???Who gave her the right to sass him so much. He's just sitting here, keeping her company, chasing away monsters in the dark, and she's just a sass machine. Though, does he really mind it?

Not really.

People tended to keep away from him. Either put off by his gloomy attitude or by the prestige of his name and family.

He makes a noise. Sucking through his teeth and a bit bewildered. ]

[ It's strange, he notes, the voice which used to whisper that he could be more powerful than any jedi has grown so much weaker. He's not sure when or why-- he wishes he had paid more attention to it now. ]

[ Tense and deflecting. She's not going to touch upon whether or not he's a master. Honestly, she'd prefer that he was so that he could teach her and she wouldn't have to go see Luke. Now that Ben has warned him about her — and it does feel like a warning — she's worried about the exact perception Ben had reported his own father having about him.

Not to mention there is of course that voice gnawing at the back of her mind telling her not to actively pursue the question of her family lest she be disappointed. In her bones she knows that she and Ben aren't related, but her conscious mind is entertaining it despite all reservations because her ache to belong is equally powerful as her need to delude herself.

It's a big yikes.

Alright, so maybe she's the one really side-stepping here, nagging him instead of engaging her own bullshit. But she's able to keep a clear head with no bullshit bothering her at all while she's working, so it feels easy to put it all off on him. ]

What's the matter? Was it something Skywalker said?

[ His brow furrows and he can't decide whether he's okay or not with the fact that they can read one another so easily. Or the fact that it's just gotten stronger after they shared that moment and Maybe. That's what pushed Luke out.

He shifts on his feet behind her, plucking his lightsaber from his belt and examining the hilt. Keeping his mind busy on wondering which modifications to test out. ]

[ Still a deflection. But really-- ]

Nothing he said disturbed me that deeply. We hardly had a real chance to talk.

I only heard bits and pieces.

[ Her voice echoes around inside the hyperdrive's shell, making her sound further away than she is. A few grunts come next, then a loud clang as something comes loose. She wiggles a little to start pulling herself free of the mess of moving parts that she has burrowed her way into, and when she's free, she has covered herself in black streaks of engine grease and she holds up a capacitor for him to take. ]

Speaking of your father ... That's half our problems solved. The rest will be worse, though. We need to cut the fuel lines off this thing and borrow the whole lines to make up for the places where the Falcon's were punctured, plus the injector system.

[ She wipes the back of her glove across her mouth, smearing away sweat. ]

We should get it to Chewie. You'll be able to leave sooner if we get them working on this part now, and all help with the fuel lines tonight.

[ Well. At least he was not looking at her wiggling out because he may have been tempted to grab her hips and pull her out. Which. As much as we are joking about everything, is the carcass of a long dead freighter really a good location for first time fucking?

[ Yes. This is easier than confronting real issues of her abandonment. She heads into the hall of the freighter and starts back towards the entrance they'd made for themselves. It's the only source of light at this point, so it's easy to head towards. ]

We can take a break. Drink some water, give Chewie the part to fix the hyperdrive, and you can tell me more about the Force and the Jedi.

[ I mean, to be fair. He is also avoiding telling her that her parents are dead and that she's definitely being stalked by someone who is potentially more OP than Luke Skywalker and by the way it's probably his fault.

This is all not to mention the fact that he's thinking maybe he needs to make himself more suspeptible to save her? Would that be worth the sacrifice? It's so fucking dumb, but it's also pretty skywalker. Yeah Sure Kylo. [ This is delivered bluntly. Out of anyone else, it might be a joke, but Rey is very serious. At this point she feels pretty confident in saying that he's not entirely sold on it himself right now — as a result, his efforts to evangelize her feel … lacking. Soulless. She surveys him, partly in skepticism and partly in measure of his abilities.

And there's something else there too.

She's realizing that this daily routine — scavenging, scrapping parts — it's all more doable with company. This doesn't feel half as agonizing. Partly because of the conversation, partly because now that she's done the hard work of removing it, he can be the one to carry the component.

It's hard to balance that with her uncertainty about joining him. His presence matters to her, makes her life a little bit better in ways she can't help but notice, yet she's not sure that anything he's actually offering is right for her at all because of all their mutual hang-ups. What a wild ride. ]

He hasn't because he's in a weird spot himself. A spot where like, at least at jedi camp he'd felt like he was doing something, but now he's not and he wasn't sure why. But now maybe he's cracked a mystery. And like it seemed like a dumb mystery at first. Just: "Yeah Ben Solo. Of course you're evil. You were related to Darth Vader this entire time" sort of mystery.

But now it's much more grave and-- Not gonna lie, he's hesitant because if something is getting something over on his Uncle he's not sure how he can take it on. Like. What is he gonna do, just chop someone in half with a lightsaber.

But all of that-- Even with all of that... in spite of, because of-- whatever. It doesn't matter.

Something is pulling them together.

It's not even about how he's starting to see how she could be beautiful even covered in grime and he likes???? touching her. This was something bigger than all of that and-- big steps. Big steps foward and he'll tug her arm so she's facing him. The light is dim, he's biting back those churning emotions that aren't helping him right now. Straight into her eyes. ]

[ The first clue that Rey has it bad is in the fact that he keeps touching her and she keeps letting him. Not slapping him away, not bristling, not getting ready for a fight. In fact, she doesn't even raise her hackles. Perhaps because in the back of her mind, she can feel his intent, and she knows not to be afraid of him. The rest of the world can mean her harm, but she can feel Ben Solo's intent, and he would only protect her.

What he says, then, only puts voice to this thing that they have not otherwise proven able to substantiate and define. She whips around to look up at him, and her eyes go soft and wide and glassy as he makes this declaration that's more insistent upon her value than anything she's ever heard in her life. What he says makes it painfully clear that his concern is with keeping her company, whatever it takes.

She's never been anyone's priority before.

Something claws its way up her throat. It's the sort of panic that emerges from not knowing how to react because it's just so much that he dumps at her feet. For a moment, she even thinks he might kiss her. This is usually when people kiss. That's the look, the feeling, the kind of thing they say. She's sure of that because she's heard stories.

Except he doesn't kiss her. In fact, his mouth looks set in a firm, imploring line of a desperate man. The thought of her staying here, she realizes, scares him. It scares him because he'll lose her, and he can't stand the idea of leaving her behind.

(Like her parents did.)

There's the rest too, of course. There's the fact that she's never been offered a fair wage and a reasonable job and a place where she feels safe like she has felt safe on the Falcon. All the things he has brought into her life with him, he offers those too. She'd be a fool to refuse it — especially when he has offered her the only thing she is missing here, a path to her parents.

It's a good thing he's holding that hyperdrive component or she'd be hugging him right now. And that'd be a bad path to go down in the dim corners of a husk of a light freighter. Slowly, wetting dry lips, she nods. ]

Okay. [ A beat. ] I'll come.

[ A lame finish to his declaration. But it's a big deal for her. Monumental. ]

[ Sorry Rey, you're gonna have to kiss him. Because he's just firmly of the mindset that "She cannot be attracted to me and my dumb ears". Like it's not even a mindset it's a way of being. So he got some doki dokis, it's natural. He's still not super geezer and she's young, but it's clear she will be beautiful when she's an adult so.

[ He'll give her space to get out and... again. Try not to assume she needs help getting out. But if she struggles to get out of the hole well guess who will be setting down the part and holding her hips to help her wriggle out?

[ She doesn't need his help getting out, exactly, but she does prompt him to help her out by putting his knee out because she's small and he's a giant and she's not going to neglect to use her resources just to prove a point. Her continued survival has proven that point already. She's not here to prove her capabilities to anyone — she's well aware of them, and so is Ben.

So Rey gets her heel on his leg and grabs onto the edges of the hole, which have cooled down partially and then heated up in the midday sun so it's touch and go. Luckily she's wearing gloves. She hoists herself up and wriggles in the process of adjusting her grip while bearing all her weight. It's an exciting process that involves almost kicking him in the head to get herself momentum.

Anyway. The really exciting part is when she's almost out but she does have a little bit of difficulty pulling herself up so there's more definitive wriggling and squirming of her butt getting out of there. Probably just enough to get him to reach out to help and find it was mostly unnecessary as she pulls herself free a moment later.

Just. All kinds of teenage ass in his face. Luckily she wears that mostly shapeless wrap that is completely hanging loose and not covering her Actually Shapely Butt in Those Pants while this is going on.

Anyway it's fine. I'm sure Ben isn't bothered at all.

She slides down the side of the hull and pulls her canteen out to chug a portion of what's left. She's not going to be able to find more, so she only drinks like a quarter of it. Some for Ben now, and some for both of them after they've got the fuel lines. It's rationing. If he can free himself successfully, when he comes down, she's wiping water stray water spray from her lips into her mouth and extending the canteen to him. ]
