Kylo/Hux: This is such a huge maybe it's almost a no. I am not down for fluffy Kylo/Hux. I don't think Kylo or Hux secretly love each other and that takes form in them wanting to murder each other when they walk into a room and see each other. I do not think Kylo wants anything to do with Hux's dick Ever. I only see this happening as Hux taking advantage of Kylo when he's emotionally compromised and unprotected without Snoke keeping Hux in line.

I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.

I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.

I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

[ Imprinting on Ben is not a fluke it is a part of the design of the Force. Ben doesn't realize how weird this is about to get. Like he's got a taste, but not an entire idea.

[ He has lived that life. Never again. Old man snores and wookiee snores are literally the worst. ]

I can sleep in the cockpit if I have to.

[ Han's looking taken aback that his son doesn't want to sleep in the same room as him. Like really.

'We haven't even had dinner yet and you're rejecting me.'

Chewbacca helpfully brings up that he hasn't been to the refresher in a few hours and he probably wants to get his hair in order.

Rey you are missing so many levels of family drama right now. Be glad. ]

[ Rey looks around at them, absolutely perplexed by this entire conversation. It kicks in a moment later that, oh, they're not from Jakku. Of course. They're worried about things like the refresher and actual bunks.

Around the time Chewie starts talking about Ben's hair, she makes her way over to the dejarik board and takes a seat on the bench that wraps around it. She drops the rations Chewie had provided her on top of it, accidentally bringing it to life mid-game. She reaches down to first unfreeze the game — the holo projection gets stronger, clearer, crisper — and then to turn it off.

Han and Chewie exchange looks. ]

I can sleep on the floor.

[ She points out, ambivalent. ]

That's what I usually do.

[ It's an AT-AT, not a motel 8. ]

[ Han gestures as if to say "who am I to argue" and Ben brings up the Best argument. ]

Mom would kill us.

[ And Chewbacca agrees. Yes. Leia Organa would kill every last one of them for letting a young girl sleep on the floor. ]

Dad, you can sleep in the cock pit. I know you want to anyway.

[ This man loved this fucking ship. It was unnatural. ]

Chewie can sleep out here, Rey can take the bunks.

[ Like she'd need three??? But whatever. Again. Not gonna make a lone kid sleep on the floor. Leia raised him better than that.

--Chewie opens his mouth and Ben does not need a force bond to tell exactly what he's about to imply. ]

I'll find somewhere to sleep. Maybe one of the holds so I don't need to hear your snoring.

[ There's a beat of silence before Han so helpfully adds:

'You really are your mother's child.'

Oh my god. Maybe he should go back to Luke's hippy Jedi camp. At the very least he'd have his own bed and---

One of the girls who kept making eyes at him??? Ugh. More complications to return to. Whatever. It wasn't his concern at the moment. He looks to Rey with her tiny pile of rations, her staff, her grease covered skin, and-- everything. Is it weird that he wants to look at her, but it feels Hard to look at her all the same?? This is really weird right??? ]

The bunks are fine, right?

[ Cue Han and Chewie leaning in closer. ]

No! They're not fine.

[ Rey looks absolutely incredulous at the COMPLETE LACK OF LOGIC that just took place in this whole damn family. Not one of them has a lick of sense. In fact, if anything, she looks more Leia Organa than any of them right now. ]

Are you listening to yourselves? Have you got a single brain between the three of you? [ She studies them and then decides — No, actually, they probably don't. (What did you get yourself into, Rey???) ] There's three bunks and three of you. I've seen them. I know this ship. And it belongs to your family — you're staying in them.

If the floor's uncomfortable, I'll sleep here.

[ She pats the bench of the dejarik table. ]

You won't even notice I'm here.

[ She tears open the ration pack and starts eating it with her fingers like an animal at this point because she's 100% done with this wild fucking conversation she was just forced to humor. ]

[ Rey are you ready to realize your idols have really weird and ridiculous familial dynamics. Because you're getting full saturated ridiculous family dynamics right now. ]

I'm not sharing a room with them. I won't be able to sleep.

[ Rey you do not understand how bad it is. Even Leia cannot blame Ben on this point.

'Oh so are you offering to be a bed for Rey, then?'

Which he didn't consider that maybe leaving Rey with Chewbacca and Han Solo may lead to a different sort of interrogation but you know. You live and learn. ]

[ Rey turns to watch him go, her eyebrows raised high on her too-big forehead. She picks another piece of food out of the ration pack and stuffs it into her mouth. Han and Chewie exchange words — primarily, Chewie pointing out that Han ran him off, and Han denying that it was his fault.

What a trip. ]

So you're Han Solo?

[ She asks him, chewing like she's watching the most interesting holo she's ever seen. Front row seats to this weird fucking soap opera.

Han grumbles as he looks at her. 'Yeah. I'm Han Solo. What's it to you?' ]

Nothing. [ She holds up her hands, then wipes them off on her dust wrap. She straightens up a little in her seat like she needs to put on a good impression. 'How'd you two wind up together?' Han asked. He seemed suspicious — and why wouldn't he be? He couldn't have been separated from Ben for that long, and he knew nothing about this girl except that she was a local. ] Unkar Plutt tried to buy him from me.

[ 'Sounds about right.' Rey shrugged her shoulders. ]

Is it true you know Luke Skywalker?

[ 'Oh, karabast. BEN!' Chewie puts a hand on Han's shoulder to calm him down like maybe you better not right now. And then Han's like, 'He can't just use that. He doesn't get to use that to impress—' But Chewie silences him with a Look and Han just scowls. 'Well, he shouldn't.' Then, to Rey, 'Yeah. We know Luke Skywalker.' ]

Then shouldn't you be able to afford a better ship?

[ Chewie makes an indignant noise. Han holds up a single finger and just, 'YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW.'

Rey scarfs down the last of her ration and gets to her feet. ]

Yeah. Right. Sleep tight, yeah? I'll wake you first thing. [ She knocks on the dejarik table as if to seal the promise and then makes her way up into the cockpit to join Ben. Behind her, she could hear Chewie making whiny noises to Han, and Han agreeing, 'I don't like her.' And then — 'Hey! Wait.'

Rey stops and turns. ]

I thought you didn't like me.

[ Han makes a face, then waves her back towards them. Reluctantly, Rey heads over to join. 'You did me a real favor, pulling her together today. Finding us the parts. So I'm gonna do you a favor too.' ]

I didn't ask you for anything.

[ 'That's 'cause you don't know to.' Han said. Chewie made a warning noise, but Han continued. 'You don't want to get into it with Ben right now. I know, he's a good-looking kid, but … There's a lot going on. It's been a tough time. So just keep your distance, alright?' ]

Sorry, I'm confused. [ Not least of all by the vagueries and the calling Ben a kid AND by the conflicting messages of his insistence on their flirting and then his warning against it. Maybe he was just really afraid of it. Probably that, but she couldn't see why. Ben was so … normal. ] Do you want me to have sex with your son, or not?

[ Han definitely wasn't expecting her to be that blunt. He looks pale. Chewie laughs — loudly. ]

And by the way? I'm fourteen. So maybe it's not your son you should be worried about. [ She looks him over like come on grandpa stop looking at fourteen year olds as viable hot young women. And then she turns to return to the cockpit without further comment.

Han hasn't been so put in his place since he was actually married to Leia. ]

[ Fortunate thing one: Ben helped Rey get some hold on her emotions so he missed that conversation.

Fortunate thing two: He was also distracted for scanning the signals for his mother or Luke so he double missed that entire conversation.

His mother is out of range. Not surprising. He can still feel the tug she gives him through the Force. She realizes he's reaching out to her and will try to get in touch with him as soon as possible.

Luke is a different story. He has a feeling he's been cut off. It's... really weird being ghosted by your uncle. He'd been frustrated in their last lessons together, but not by his ineptitude, but by how strong he was growing and how quickly he had picked up on things. Not to mention the news of Darth Vader reaching them and-- there'd been other students who'd voiced their annoyance with some of the lessons and Master Skywalker's growing impaitience.

A harsh sigh exits his mouth and Ben's concern now is if his uncle will even want to know about this. Maybe he's making it all up in his head? Or even worse-- he'll mirror Han's concerns about him flirting with a Child.

But there was something there. Something to this. He can't ignore it-- given some time to think on his own (Which u kno. thanks for the hold up dad), he realizes that there's a darkness chasing her similar to his own.

It's too much for him to handle. And if it is nothing, Luke would say so.

He scruffs a gloved hand through his hair-- really wondering what he did wrong with Luke.

Fortunately, Rey's entrance pulls him from that thought.

Kinda... surprised to see her? Like, she seemed really cagey earlier. But cool. Here's his new stray loth-cat. ]

[ He'll turn off the transmissions for now. He's not reaching anyone he needs to talk to tonight. ]

[ She settles into the copilot's chair. It's covered in hair. We're not judging. She doesn't look like she knows quite what to say here, but she knows that she didn't want to hang out with Han and Chewie anymore despite her hero worship. It was too strange to be talked about without being properly talked to.

They were more interested in ribbing Ben about her than in about her on her own. She didn't blame them for that. She wasn't their kid.

(What was Chewie's relation to them anyway?) ]

I think your dad and Chewie are going to sleep. [ She looks out the front viewport, scanning the dusk for signs of teedo. Nothing. They probably weren't going to get scrapped overnight. ] You don't have to sleep in here. You can take the bench by the dejarik board. I mean it. I don't sleep well on soft things. The floor will be fine for me.

[ Ben-- is fine with letting them think some weird romantic thing was going on between them more then letting on about the Force. His father wouldn't react well to that. More Force bullshit being pushed into his life.

But he's not sure exactly how he's going to handle those conversations until then. ]

There's a bunk above the bench. If you don't mind it being a bit dusty it's better than the floor.

[ He glances over at her then and very seriously says: ]

My mother will honestly kill me if I let you sleep on the floor. Please.

[ Leia will superman through space to back hand him. ]

[ For a while in that silence that follows, it looks like Rey might take umbrage with this. She's definitely not sold. Not at all. But then she thinks of the weirdness of the rest of his family, and finally, a defeated sigh comes out. ]

I hope I never meet her, if the rest of them are anything to go by.

[ She glances back towards the entrance to the cockpit. ]

Why's he so sold on thinking we're gonna be necking around corners anyway? I thought Jedi didn't do that kind of thing. Or was that a myth too?

[ She looks him over. Han had tried to warn her about him. She isn't sure she buys it, but … it's worth wondering why. Was he some kind of player? The kind of guy who'd do what it took to get what he wanted? It hardly seemed like it when he was working this hard to not have to share a bunk with her. ]

[ He's just about to inform her that Leia Organa is a pure cinnamon roll who must be protected in all of her perfection when she fields him the last half of the tag and-- it's as if the wind is knocked out of him. Why did his father seem to have the delicacy of a sledge hammer? WHY WAS HIS FATHER EVEN WORRIED ABOUT HIS SEX LIFE?????????

Luke has been trying to change some of the traditions of the Jedi, including that one. [ He can handle that first. And like... honestly he hadn't asked Luke too deeply about it because ... well. He's #ForeverAlone Virgin killed his girlfriend totally. Whoops hope you don't get to meet her Rey. ] He thinks I'm like him. [ Maybe???? Actually there's more to it. ] It's not as if I accidentally bring--- [ Which... term to use here.... (don't use females you asshole) ] --girls with me on board our ship. He's probably misunderstood the circumstances as well.

[ He's never going to hear the end of this. ]

So you bring them aboard on purpose?

[ The weirdest part of the way she questions him to this effect is that it's not with judgment, but absolute shameless candor. If he's a big ho, she'd like to get that cleared up now. It would at least explain what Han's warning her about. Right now, it seems like Ben has no idea.

By the sound of it, Luke should be the one Han is warning people about. Who takes a bunch of people's children to go be alone with them and revive a religious order and is like 'except for the vow of celibacy, not that part.' ]

[ I mean by god lets hope Luke didn't start and weirdness with students. He is poster child for weird sexual trauma along with Ben. Y I K E S.

Also-- Rey, don't mind the look of absolute mortification. ]

[ And she's not. Rey gets to her feet. After all, he has decided their sleeping arrangements, and the transmissions seem a bust. No need to linger in the cockpit. She starts pulling the ties out of her hair. They live lumpy awkward curls where they were, each layer of her hair bent at a different length. She sets the ties aside on the dejarik board.

Then, after some consideration, she took off her boots and belt too. These three were unlikely to rob her. They had already given her lodging and food for free. ]

[ Ah. Her parents. ~~The biggest cockblock~~ The untouchable subject

Well at the very least she's not speculating about him being some Big Time Player anymore. He stands to follow her, given there's not much to do when no one can reach them. He's not really wanting to sit in the cockpit by himself with his own thoughts. He tried not to be alone too often anymore.

And she-- She was something else. A feeling builds in his chest and he can't put a word to it. He lets it pass on it's own, fighting everything wasn't doing him much good right now, after all.

But jfc her hair is a mess and while he doesn't mind it on her it brings up the subject of his own. He'll have to find a refresher soon. His hair is Seriously neglected today.

He waits for her to shed her extra layers and start climbing into the bunk before he finds his way to the bench. He'll keep his boots and belt on. Because he Knows what has gone on in these halls and he's gotten used to sleeping in them.

Well-- more like it's become a necessity. Nothing more unpleasant than waking up to your father screaming that you're under attack.

He takes a moment to lay back (Also noting he's able to hear Chewbacca's and Han's chorus of snores even through the durasteel) before he looks back up to where she's arranging herself. ]

[ She jokes, looking down at him from above. It's an odd position. Not the bunk — she's slept in some high places when it wasn't realistic to get back from a star destroyer to her AT-AT in the same day when she had more to salvage. Rather, his presence. Rey has never slept in the same room with another person. No sleepovers. No bunk-sharing. None of it.

She'd never even considered it. She almost doesn't know how to transition from chatting to sleep, and it's apparent in the way that even when she lays back, she keeps her eyes open and on him.

He's not going to attack her. He's proven it a dozen times over. But she can't shut her brain off, not entirely, and she can't make herself used to the little ticks that indicate his presence in her periphery. ]

I'm fine. Really. You've all been … really great, already. Even Han.

[ Okay there's a huff of a laugh. Like don't even lie. His father is a grumpy old man who just caused a whole shitton of trouble of this piece of crap ship

And is now sleeping Loudly enough that they can hear it out in the main hold. ]

Because he's struggled with sleeping soundly for years. He's not Really looking forward to sleeping in front of Rey. Night is when the darkness plagued him the most. His vulnerable sleeping form was a siren's call to it.

He'll cross his arms and prop a Too Long leg over the back of the couch (because there's no Great position for him to sleep in out here) and try to let his eyes shut. And not think about how closely he's being watched by her.

several hours for her to fall asleep, and that's only because eventually exhaustion catches up. Exhaustion is a whore. When she does drift to sleep, she can't control her influence over the Force, and she drags him into it with her.

It's dark.

Real dark.

In her dreams, it's raining. She's never seen the rain, but it's pouring down hard and soaking her clothes and chilling her to the bone. That man is there, again. The one in the golden robe, except now his robe is charcoal and smoke. Something more regal. More intimidating.

She is brought to kneel at his feet, and he's talking, but there's no sound. No clue as to what's happening. ]

[ He recognizes this place. Not the exact location but the feel of it. It's something he couldn't describe, less of a setting and more of a state of mind. Whenever he brought these visions up to look, he'd get a look of deep concern and so eventually-- Ben stopped talking about it.

But now it's here and back and he's being pulled in and There's a whisper in the air.

'Kylo Ren.'

Goosebumps race across his skin, he tries to pull away, but it's inky and black and viscous. Like he's drowning slowly in tar.

What was this? Why couldn't he escape?? He didn't want this, none of this. He wanted someone to be proud of him. He wanted to be strong and prove himself.

He didn't want to be so alone anymore.

That's when he notices it. A shot of light in the dark. Past the specter he'd grown used to, past the muck and the ever deepening darkness.

Hope-- something like it. ]

Rey--

[ His voice feels small and muted. But he feels as if he reaches her, maybe things could be okay. ]

[ She looks up, finds him in the dark. Ben. He stands out against the sheets of rain, looking as drowned in it as she is, but her eyes find him and there's a smile that starts on her face like she's happy to see him. She's not quite sure why, but it feels like he should be here. And he's going to make things better.

But then a wrinkled hand comes around from behind her and grips her neck, pulling her away from him.

She lets out a cry — ] BEN!

[ And she jolts awake, panting and paralyzed in her bunk. ]

[ He's awake just as soon as she is and--

It was--him. It-- Something. It was the darkness. He'd only ever felt it. Never seen it or been able to picture it. But he saw it reach out and grab her and he knew intrinsically what it was.

The thought now occurs to him all at once: Is that what Luke saw?

He's nearly too wrapped up in his own thoughts, but then he realizes this panic isn't his own (he had grown so used and nearly comforted by the dark. It no longer made him jump at every corner), but Rey's. Dark eyes dart up to see her and--

Did he do this to her?

Is this why he was so suddenly torn from his training?

He scrambles over the couch, fumbling only slightly before he's standing to reach her and-- It seemed natural, intuitive, to wrap his arms around her and hold her tight. ]

It's okay-- [ His voice is rough but quiet. ] It's okay. I'm here.

[ Why did this feel natural? Why did this feel like something he could do? Why was any of this happening? ]

You're not alone.

[ When his arms close around her, she starts to fight them at first, mistaking him for that creature in the dark, and the tears come then. An ugly mess of them that she cannot put words to, and with them, a howling sound that is barely human. She does not want this. She has never wanted this.

She realizes that the steady embrace around her is Ben's and she stops — fighting him. Nails and fists let up on his shoulders and instead slip around them, pulling herself trembling into his arms. Rey has never had an easy time sleeping, never found respite in the dark, always dreamed of something distant and foreign to her in hopes that she'll see it someday, but —

This is worse. Worse than all her grief and loneliness and pain. It's as though all of it, a lifetime of it, has become concentrated. And it's set on drowning her.

You're not alone, he tells her, and the sobbing gets worse. She doesn't know what to do with this. He should not even be here, comforting her. She's nothing to him. Nobody. But she's so, so glad that he is. ]

[ Something was targeting them. The sobs which shake her body, the pull of her fingers at his back-- It was targeting them and he doesn't know why.

Well-- For him it was obvious. His lineage-- his fucking lineage was something to behold. Anyone who would feed off the potential of the Force would target him. He was obvious.

But her?

He can feel her thoughts of "no one" echoing though her head and she's right. She has no connection to the story, her abilities, though possibly more powerful than one could fathom, lay dormant and untouched. There was no reason for the darkness to chase a scavenger girl from Jakku. Even if it dragged her in, she'd have no idea what to do with it. More likely to hurt herself then seek a pathway to navigate the dark...

But they touched and it was instant. Undeniable.

Had it grown frustrated that Ben's darkness had begun to ebb, to ease back and recede?

--He had to speak to Luke. This was above him. This brought clarity and fear and if his father knows why he was so insistent on bringing this girl with them he may just leave her in the desert to fend for herself.

He squeezes his eyes shut and draws her closer. Focusing on finding his center. This conjecture and worry wouldn't do them any good in the middle of the night. He'd talk to Luke soon. He'd get to the bottom of it.

For now-- he thinks of Chandrila, of waves crashing on the beach, on the smell wafting in the breeze... of an ocean. He can't find any words to say, not good ones at least. He hopes this could be enough for the moment. Quiet memories, a tight embrace, he rocks her back and forth.

He'll realize later this is what his mother used to do for him. ]

[ The steady splash of waves does not belong to her, she realizes. This is his calm, his ocean, his home. Rey lets it lap over her, clings to him like he's her only gravity. She misses the thumping from down the hall in the crew quarters that should signal that it won't be long before they're interrupted. Her screams, as it turned out, had drowned out the snores.

Soon enough she is calm enough to speak, however. ]

Did you feel it? [ She whispers in a hoarse voice against his shoulder. ] Did you see it? [ The fear is there in her voice, a fear which will too happily drag her into that darkness if she's not careful. But she doesn't know that. ]

[ Her fear is like a fire. Bright and hot and burning her to ash-- He's ready to answer her. To try and help her understand that he saw it too and what ever it is they are facing, they won't be facing it alone when he feels more than hears his father and Chewbacca scrambling.

Shit.

This isn't going to end well either way, but it definitely won't end well if he's holding her. He places his hands on her shoulders and pushes her away, taking a few steps back until he's tumbling on to his ass on the floor.

A sharp hiss of pain which is followed by Chewbacca and Han roaring in, blasters out and ready for a Fight.

'What's goin' on in here?'

It's a bit more slurred from being awoken so suddenly and having to deal with the shock of his son on the floor and a GIRL CRYING?

Ben is seeing his life flash before his eyes. ]

I can explain--
