Kylo/Hux: This is such a huge maybe it's almost a no. I am not down for fluffy Kylo/Hux. I don't think Kylo or Hux secretly love each other and that takes form in them wanting to murder each other when they walk into a room and see each other. I do not think Kylo wants anything to do with Hux's dick Ever. I only see this happening as Hux taking advantage of Kylo when he's emotionally compromised and unprotected without Snoke keeping Hux in line.

I know everyone and their mom with an armchair psychologist degree wants to diagnose Kylo Ren/Ben Solo with whatever mental illness checks all the boxes. I know Bipolar and Borderline personality disorder are two popular illnesses to cite when it comes to his mental health. Along with a healthy dose of citing him as a sociopath/psychopath. However, I'm not going to be using those illnesses/personality disorders in how I play Kylo. While they fit on paper, I don't believe "what's wrong with him" presents in the correct fashion in canon for any one of the above listed issues.

I believe Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is suffering from: Recurring Chronic Major Depression it could be passed down through their family given what we know of Anakin and what happened with Luke; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder From his force powers manifesting with him having little control over it as a kid, from being sent away to Luke after his mother couldn't handle him on her own anymore, from his father leaving one day and never coming back, from having a voice whispering in his head his entire life, from that voice being a predator who preyed on his weaknesses and molded him into what he wanted Ben to be, from Luke Skywalker holding a lightsaber above his head, from abuse after abuse from Snoke, and probably a Ton more. Abandonment issues stemming first from his parents (And quite probably friends he had who left for whatever reason, or bridges he burned on his own) and then just. The entire force tbh. And abandonment issues is where he gets his unchecked rage, he, in canon, is quite literally triggered into a rage whenever he confronts someone who he felt abandoned him, or when he feels rejected or left behind. Finally he is a victim of Brainwashing and indoctrination from Snoke. Snoke is a narcissist who was using Kylo as a means to an end, it's been stated and shown that he was ready to kill Kylo after the Last Jedi since he had become unbalanced and unpredictable. If you don't agree with what I am saying here (Which is fine :) ), then I suggest you don't play with me. I am fairly confident in this being the way I see and play Kylo.

I play him as having triggers. I won't get into the reasoning behind each one, but i'll specify the specifics which come to mind: Abandonment (Perceived or real), his family, loss of control (Physically, emotionally, mentally, through the force)

Another sigh and-- This is difficult, teenagers are difficult, how did anyone have kids? The voices in her head, an imitation of a loving mother. It stings him as if it was his own heart. This is really. Really weird.

Of course his own mother had assured him he was loved and wanted, but her words had hit him in such an entirely different way-- No. He can't touch that. Not right now. ]

You feel it too, though. [ He doesn't need to specify. He knows she knows. ] Have you felt something like this before?

[ After the Empire, the Force seemed to lie dormant. asleep. Waiting for something to set off a cascade. Luke had told him it was a cycle, that it was possible very soon there would be movement and the light and dark would battle again. But one must always seek balance.

He hated those lessons. Sometimes he nearly comprehended it, only for the meaning and importance to slip through his fingers like water. Luke assured him it was normal. He'd understand when the time came.

Now he's worried the time is coming and he still doesn't quite grasp it. ]

[ She can hear the hints of Luke's lessons like a chorus around her — are these his thoughts? Or another strange vision? An aging man, grizzled, warning him of the power of the darkness. Her fear spikes. She doesn't understand it, never wanted it. But she'd protected it there on Jakku. This strange draw she felt towards Ben, it was as much that as it was his lightsaber and Plutt's extortion of her labor that prompted her to turn on the junk dealer and help Ben escape. ]

[ Admitting it doesn't mean agreeing to pursue it further. Something in her chest called for her to examine it, to take her time, to learn, but—

She couldn't. She was too afraid to let go. ]

You should know that. You're the one who did it to me. [ She's sticking to that interpretation. He'd crashed into her, and suddenly this had all come out from left field. Some distant part of her mind chides her for this, telling her that she knows the Light has always been there, but she doesn't want to hear it. This is his fault. ]

[ She doesn't even know she has potential in the Force. It's so oddly different from what he knew. His powers had made themselves obvious, practically crashing into the door of his mind. A battle from the start, light and dark And the dark had been winning for a long time. Right now it was a brief respite. One he clung on to, not wanting to return to that fear and despair he'd felt. ]

I told you already, I had nothing to do with this. [ Clearly that approach isn't working. His jaw ticks and he looks away for a brief moment before trying to catch her eyes again. ] Do you think I'm lying to you?

[ She searches his face. Unconsciously, she probes into his mind. He may feel the discomfort as she skims the surface there, digging for dishonesty. There's no deception there, however. Some part of her seems to be frustrated by that — like maybe it would be easier if he had been lying.

If he's not lying, it means the issue lies with her. ]

[ Now it's like he's pulling teeth. She doesn't want to examine it. That'll mean more regret that she can't drag herself off Jakku. ]

[ YIKES. That's a weird feeling. She's in his head, he's felt something like that before-- Luke trying to help him understand what was going on in his head and-- something else he can't place.

Does he run from this or embrace it? ]

This won't stop, it will only get stronger.

[ The best approximation he can give. He had been her age when his powers suddenly ratcheted up in intensity, when the darkness in him grew stronger.

Maybe it is his fault. He'd always felt like a blight upon his family. ]

[ She straightens, standing to look up at him. There's something there. Consideration. She's doing mental math. How long would she possibly be gone for it? If she went back, what would happen? There's no denying that she is afraid. It lingers around her like a dark shadow, threatening to pull her under. Afraid of what she can do, afraid of what will happen if she does not hear him out. She'd hoped it would just go away, but …

He is the expert. ]

If we go to Skywalker, how long would it take? Would he be able to stop it?

[ All at once he knows what his parents had seen in him. The fear is like an avalanche, over-whelming her. She had every right to be afraid, but it wouldn't do her any good in controlling this.

He won't lie to her. Given their connection he's fairly sure she could see through that. It wouldn't do him any good to try and mislead her for an easier .... "guest"? Kind of stowaway? Kinda kidnapped? It's too complicated already. ]

I'm not sure-- what you're dealing with may be easier. [ From what he can see-- she's a bright shot in the dark. She's rude and abrasive and covered in grease and dirt, but her hope shines through her. ] And I doubt he can stop it-- [ Wait. Actually rephrase that. ] --and if he can, he won't. He will help you control it.

[ As if to prove his point, he'll hold out a hand and an errant tool will fly from her grip into his fingers.

Rey, this is fukkin hogwarts level shit and Ben Solo is your owl. ]

I have to go back to Jakku.

[ This time, when she repeats it, there are tears in her eyes that won't quite come. She closes her hand around air now that the tool is no longer there, as though she can somehow hold tight to the power he had demonstrated, the opportunity he offered her, through that intangible moment.

She shakes her head, the aching in her chest growing, a fear that shakes her. She doesn't know what to do with it, with any of this. ]

[ CRYING??/ /?? ? GIRL???? Oh my god, he's not qualified to handle this. No one on this ship is qualified to handle th--

Oh Chewbacca probably could. But Ben isn't thinking logically like that right now. Because right now he feels a tug. A pull. Her emotions are his own and he recognizes this just as clearly as he knows his own face. He sucks in between his teeth, a momentary hesitation, before he goes with what is compelling him at this moment.

Dropping down into the hatch with her. Carefully. Trying not to crowd her-- he's still fucking huge, if not completely swole yet. He holds out his hand for her, carefully. ]

I won't force you to see him, but I'd like to help you.

[ He knows what's holding her back, now. It's ringing between them, the fear, the abandonment. Things he recognizes. He keeps his own thoughts on her parents to himself-- it wouldn't do any good to pick at that wound right now. And like. What kind of cold hearted broken jerk would tell her that her parents likely sold her off for booze and are long dead and that she knew that all this time? Wow. ]

[ He crowds her. She backs into a corner of the maintenance hatch to try and avoid him because no one had been this close to her deliberately in years except for the life-and-death situation they'd just found themselves in. It's made more confusing still by the fact that they seem to be sharing more than what they are saying, though she can't explain how or what. ]

It'll take a day or two to get your ship fixed. [ Finding the parts would take her all of the next day. Putting them on could be done quickly with four of them, but not as quickly as they'd want unless they worked through the night. ] Show me … Show me enough to make it stop. Enough that I don't have to go to see Skywalker.

[vaderstan]

[ Show her? It takes him a bit off-guard, certainly he's helped the other students on their stances and clearing their mind-- but does he really know enough to teach her??

Let alone in two days?

Well, that wasn't entirely the point right now, was it? ]

Okay. I can try. [ There's so much raw potential in her form that he can't promise anything. He's not sure how powerful she could become until she starts pushing back. And right now she's holding everything back. ] If you decide you want to stay, I won't stop you.

[ Temptation thy name is Ben Solo in a space Henley looking lanky with his big ears and still growing out hair. And that hand. Prayer circle for Rey and her probably in the throes of puberty body and mind and how hard is she about to get introduced to womanhood ]

[ Her breath is so loud in her head that she has to wonder if it looks to him like she's winded. She shouldn't be, reasonably. Her heart has slowed down since that chase. But, no, it's hammering again now. In uncertainty. Indecision. Rey flicks her gaze back and forth between his face and his hand, weighing his offer.

It doesn't seem fair that he should offer her this at all. That it should happen to her when she needs so badly to wait there for them.

She reaches up to take his hand. The movement happens all at once, like she knows she can't inch towards it or she'll lose her nerve. But she needs this. Needs it, or she's going to fray at the edges with fear of what is happening to her.

Touching his hand, as it turns out, is a mistake. She sees a disfigured man, all in gold, grinning a pocked and leering grin from a red throne and she is screaming in agony. It is a specter that has haunted Ben his whole life. This face feel familiar to her, a feeling borrowed through Ben for she has never seen him in her life. Never felt the cold of the ship she stands on.

She collapses in front of him, gasping.

It's too much. All of this is too much. The space is made more cramped with her at his feet, her fingers curling into fists against the metal floor panels. ]

What … What's happening to me?

[vaderstan]

[ This time he sees her past, clearly. As if it was his own. He sees the money exchange hands, her parents walking away--

A pauper's grave for a couple of drunkards.

How long had she been waiting for the dead to return to her?

And then she's on the floor, collapsed in front of him and-- there's guilt and worry and feelings so strong they steal his breath. He leans over her and nearly touches her again - then thinks better of it. He reaches out a hand and a pair of gloves come rocketing to his fingers. They're slid on deftly before he puts a hand to her back. Trying to soothe her. ]

The Force has it's own will, it works through living beings. [ He's trying to remember the words Luke offered him when he first came. ] Some people-- simply have more potential than others.

[ The best way to put it for the moment. He doesn't want to scare her with the possibility that she could be much more powerful than she ever guessed.

And that the triggering event was meeting him. ]

Try to slow your breathing and clear your head. It will help.

[ The hand at her back is a comfort. It doesn't come with any visions, any dilating of the world, any tunneling. It's just the two of them. Maybe they had exhausted it together, but she's not counting on that. She presses her eyes shut, holding back tears, trying to remaster control over herself and her own body and —

She draws breath. Holds it in. Exhales. Over and over until she is no longer hyperventilating. She knows this. She remembers it from when she had broken her arm. Eleven years old and bolder than she was strong. She'd barely been able to use it for months. Sometimes, when the barometric pressure dropped, she still felt a pang there near her elbow.

She had set the bone on her own. She had cried through the pain on her own. She had taught herself to bite through it on her own. But she's not on her own anymore.

She looks up at him, face wet though her tears have stopped. She shakes her head, confused and frightened and overwhelmed and — the Falcon lurches. She must be getting ready to set down at the coordinates Rey had given Han. Rey got to her feet and rubbed her eyes dry. ]

[vaderstan]

[ He wants to hug her or ...???/??? and he's having trouble discerning whether any of these emotions are appropriate or not. It's clear they're feeding off of the energy between them and


That's more frightening.

He's never heard of Force Soul Mates but who the fuck knows and he's not willing to let his mind wander there so. That door is shut. Hard. The ship lurches and they're landing. He stands with her and he looks at her. Afraid and confused and-- God dammit he really wants to hug her. ]

Good. [ He can feel her managing to take a hold of her end of their connection. It's easier to grab his when she's got more control.

No reaching out of his hand, he steps off to the side so she can get out more easily. ] My name is Ben. [ Though... she knew that. Clearly. Already said it a few times. (and in those flashes) ] What's yours?

[ She offers it with a sort of strained gulp. It's not easy to find words. Her voice feels raw with the sudden onset of tears. But she's pushing those emotions down, confusing as they are, and trying not to think too hard about the fact that she'd just had this come-apart in front of a boy who hadn't even introduced himself to her.

His hand is off her back, and she realizes she misses the contact too. But the threat of those visions is enough to keep her from touching him again, so she reaches over to the ladder and pulls herself back out of the hatch, climbing back up onto the deck. She turns to offer him a hand up, once she's there. ]

We need to tell your father that there's no scavenging parts in the dark. Too many critters come out. We'll have to wait until morning.

[vaderstan]

[ He's following after her and takes her hand almost with out thought. The only thing that saves them is his gloves. A soft sigh that he isn't attacked by an onslaught of visions. Once he reaches the top he'll start to make his way to the cockpit. ]

[ Shit. Wait.

Where is everyone going to sleep????


He'll have to check out the bunks. Kinda seemed cruel to make her sleep out on the only one that was ostensibly in the open, but otherwise she'd have to share space with him.... Or even worse. Han and Chewie.

Which isn't even a privacy thing. It's a "These two are the worst snorers on this side of the galaxy" thing.

Excuse him as he has to go talk with his dad--

'Oh--'

And he nearly runs into the man himself in the hallway.

'You two had gone so quiet I was wondering what was going on.'

We have to bunk here for the night, too much wildlife.

[ Han looks him over, examining him. As if he could read his son's mind just by looking at him. Like he's a jedi. Right. Okay dad.

'The girl tell you that?' ]

Her name is Rey.

[ Han's eyebrows raise higher until they practically become a part of his hair. He's looking between them Like. Really questioning his son right now.

Honestly Han, YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO JUDGE HIM. YOU WENT AFTER A 20 YEAR OLDER.

'Right--'

And fortunately before he can finish that smart ass quip, Chewbacca comes rushing in with some rations that had been stored in their baggage. Handing them to Rey with a soft trill. She'd helped them get their asses out of there, and Han and Ben were fat asses who didn't need the extra calories. ]

[ Rey is apparently clueless to the interaction that just happened between Han and Ben. No, really. She didn't grasp any of that because she doesn't have the social acumen. She's an actual rabid coyote. She's not going to pick up on any of this. Imprinting like a baby duck on Ben is a fluke and should not be counted.

So she just looks between them, aware that she's missing a layer here, but not sure what that layer is. ]

Thank you. [ She takes the rations from Chewie with a grin. He responds with a garbled howl, telling her to watch out for Ben. ] I can take care of myself.

[ And what should she even watch out for ?? ? He seems nice enough. And he's a Jedi. And Luke Skywalker's nephew. And —

She realizes Han is looking at her a little oddly for the fact that she speaks shyriiwook. She doesn't clarify. ]

The girl has lived here for ten years. I just got Plutt those parts out of another freighter. Trust me — farvyks love to nest in them. [ Don't bother looking that up I just invented a star wars animal. ] Plus, leaving a ship like this unattended overnight is a good way to get stranded.

[ Imprinting on Ben is not a fluke it is a part of the design of the Force. Ben doesn't realize how weird this is about to get. Like he's got a taste, but not an entire idea.

Also he is horrified that both Chewbacca and Han think he is going to take advantage of her or make moves. SHES A CHILD. Probably doesn't know what sex is. Jesus. (Don't even say this in jest Ben, she's possibly gonna make the first mvoe and you get to deal with that)

Han just-- shrugs in response to her info dump.

We need to figure out sleeping arrangements.

No-- [ Harsh and he Doesn't even want to acknowledge the implication that he wants to be in the same bunk as Rey. ] I'm more concerned about being in the same room with the both of you.

[ He has lived that life. Never again. Old man snores and wookiee snores are literally the worst. ]

I can sleep in the cockpit if I have to.

[ Han's looking taken aback that his son doesn't want to sleep in the same room as him. Like really.

'We haven't even had dinner yet and you're rejecting me.'

Chewbacca helpfully brings up that he hasn't been to the refresher in a few hours and he probably wants to get his hair in order.

[ Rey looks around at them, absolutely perplexed by this entire conversation. It kicks in a moment later that, oh, they're not from Jakku. Of course. They're worried about things like the refresher and actual bunks.

Around the time Chewie starts talking about Ben's hair, she makes her way over to the dejarik board and takes a seat on the bench that wraps around it. She drops the rations Chewie had provided her on top of it, accidentally bringing it to life mid-game. She reaches down to first unfreeze the game — the holo projection gets stronger, clearer, crisper — and then to turn it off.

Han and Chewie exchange looks. ]

I can sleep on the floor.

[ She points out, ambivalent. ]

That's what I usually do.

[ It's an AT-AT, not a motel 8. ]

[ Rey looks absolutely incredulous at the COMPLETE LACK OF LOGIC that just took place in this whole damn family. Not one of them has a lick of sense. In fact, if anything, she looks more Leia Organa than any of them right now. ]

(What did you get yourself into, Rey???) ] There's three bunks and three of you. I've seen them. I know this ship. And it belongs to your family — you're staying in them.

[ She pats the bench of the dejarik table. ]

[ She tears open the ration pack and starts eating it with her fingers like an animal at this point because she's 100% done with this wild fucking conversation she was just forced to humor. ]

[ Rey turns to watch him go, her eyebrows raised high on her too-big forehead. She picks another piece of food out of the ration pack and stuffs it into her mouth. Han and Chewie exchange words — primarily, Chewie pointing out that Han ran him off, and Han denying that it was his fault.

What a trip. ]

So you're Han Solo?

[ She asks him, chewing like she's watching the most interesting holo she's ever seen. Front row seats to this weird fucking soap opera.

Han grumbles as he looks at her. 'Yeah. I'm Han Solo. What's it to you?' ]

Nothing. [ She holds up her hands, then wipes them off on her dust wrap. She straightens up a little in her seat like she needs to put on a good impression. 'How'd you two wind up together?' Han asked. He seemed suspicious — and why wouldn't he be? He couldn't have been separated from Ben for that long, and he knew nothing about this girl except that she was a local. ] Unkar Plutt tried to buy him from me.

[ 'Sounds about right.' Rey shrugged her shoulders. ]

Is it true you know Luke Skywalker?

[ 'Oh, karabast. BEN!' Chewie puts a hand on Han's shoulder to calm him down like maybe you better not right now. And then Han's like, 'He can't just use that. He doesn't get to use that to impress—' But Chewie silences him with a Look and Han just scowls. 'Well, he shouldn't.' Then, to Rey, 'Yeah. We know Luke Skywalker.' ]

Then shouldn't you be able to afford a better ship?

[ Chewie makes an indignant noise. Han holds up a single finger and just, 'YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW.'

Rey scarfs down the last of her ration and gets to her feet. ]

Yeah. Right. Sleep tight, yeah? I'll wake you first thing. [ She knocks on the dejarik table as if to seal the promise and then makes her way up into the cockpit to join Ben. Behind her, she could hear Chewie making whiny noises to Han, and Han agreeing, 'I don't like her.' And then — 'Hey! Wait.'

Rey stops and turns. ]

I thought you didn't like me.

[ Han makes a face, then waves her back towards them. Reluctantly, Rey heads over to join. 'You did me a real favor, pulling her together today. Finding us the parts. So I'm gonna do you a favor too.' ]

I didn't ask you for anything.

[ 'That's 'cause you don't know to.' Han said. Chewie made a warning noise, but Han continued. 'You don't want to get into it with Ben right now. I know, he's a good-looking kid, but … There's a lot going on. It's been a tough time. So just keep your distance, alright?' ]

Sorry, I'm confused. [ Not least of all by the vagueries and the calling Ben a kid AND by the conflicting messages of his insistence on their flirting and then his warning against it. Maybe he was just really afraid of it. Probably that, but she couldn't see why. Ben was so … normal. ] Do you want me to have sex with your son, or not?

[ Han definitely wasn't expecting her to be that blunt. He looks pale. Chewie laughs — loudly. ]

And by the way? I'm fourteen. So maybe it's not your son you should be worried about. [ She looks him over like come on grandpa stop looking at fourteen year olds as viable hot young women. And then she turns to return to the cockpit without further comment.

Han hasn't been so put in his place since he was actually married to Leia. ]

[ Fortunate thing one: Ben helped Rey get some hold on her emotions so he missed that conversation.

Fortunate thing two: He was also distracted for scanning the signals for his mother or Luke so he double missed that entire conversation.

His mother is out of range. Not surprising. He can still feel the tug she gives him through the Force. She realizes he's reaching out to her and will try to get in touch with him as soon as possible.

Luke is a different story. He has a feeling he's been cut off. It's... really weird being ghosted by your uncle. He'd been frustrated in their last lessons together, but not by his ineptitude, but by how strong he was growing and how quickly he had picked up on things. Not to mention the news of Darth Vader reaching them and-- there'd been other students who'd voiced their annoyance with some of the lessons and Master Skywalker's growing impaitience.

A harsh sigh exits his mouth and Ben's concern now is if his uncle will even want to know about this. Maybe he's making it all up in his head? Or even worse-- he'll mirror Han's concerns about him flirting with a Child.

But there was something there. Something to this. He can't ignore it-- given some time to think on his own (Which u kno. thanks for the hold up dad), he realizes that there's a darkness chasing her similar to his own.

It's too much for him to handle. And if it is nothing, Luke would say so.

He scruffs a gloved hand through his hair-- really wondering what he did wrong with Luke.

Fortunately, Rey's entrance pulls him from that thought.
